A while back we predicted that the Mi A3 would be released by the second week of September. Well it’s the second week of September and as we predicted, the Mi A3 is set to release two days from today, on the 11th of September. We were slightly off in terms of storage variants and pricing; we were expecting a single variant with slightly higher pricing. Surprisingly there are two different variants and both of them are fairly priced.
The Mi A3 Price in Nepal for the 4/64GB version is set at Rs 23,999 and the 6/128GB is set at Rs 27,999. Mi A3 is available in three color variants – Kind of Grey, Not just Blue and More than White. As of now, the phone is currently available for pre-order in Daraz as well as SastoDeal and the official release will be from the 11th of september.
Now that we know Mi A3 will be launched the day after tomorrow, why not have a quick look at the specifications.
Xiaomi Mi A3 Feature Overview
We all know how the Mi A-series has changed the face of mid-range smartphones with their amazing camera capabilities. Mi A3 is the third iteration of the A-series. Furthermore, it somehow manages to uphold that status, bringing in some fresh new improvements and updates as well.
Design and Display
Taking a quick look at the specs, everything seems to be normal for a 2019 device. The front and the back consists of Gorilla Glass 5, which gives a more aesthetic feel to the device. Even though it is a huge fingerprint magnet, it still looks and feels good. At 6.1″, it’s not the largest display but still it can be held in a single hand.
However, there’s one thing that bother me a lot. Mi A3 is a mid-range smartphone that comes with 6.01” AMOLED screen with 720p resolution! A bit disappointing as the 720p display just feels a little inadequate. It’s not a game changer but it would have been to see a 1080p display in this device.
Performance and Power
Mi A3 is powered by a Snapdragon 665 chip-set which is not bad actually and is more of a power-efficient device. Performance wise it should not disappoint but there may be sudden frame-drops while playing heavy games. The phone is available in 4/GB and 64/128GB storage. So, there so be no complaints in the memory management and storage sections.
While we’re on the subject of power, the phone packs in a 4030mAh battery with 18W fast charging which lives up to my expectations. All in all, the phone is well-balanced in terms of performance and power.
UI
Another interesting and by more one of the features that I have appreciated is the Android One interface of Mi A3. For those of you that are not familiar, Android One is a near-stock version of the Android OS. It’s light, it’s fast and most importantly there are no ads! MIUI never fails to irritate us with Ads. So, I believe the transition to Android One is one of the best changes in the mid-range section that they could’ve brought.
Camera
Moving on to the highlighting features, the Camera. Mi A3 will have 3 cameras featuring a 48MP 1.78 aperture main camera, 8MP wide and a 2MP depth sensor. The 48MP, should be quite good as experience has shown. If it’s anything like the 48MP sensors out there in the market, trust me the pictures won’t be disappointing at all.
The front camera is even more interesting. I think the 32MP front camera speaks for itself. It should be able to capture enough details of your face. Brightness, Contrast and skin tones should be perfectly balanced by the Image processor. So overall, a really good selfie camera.

My thoughts Mi A3
If you enjoy the stock Android experience and have a thing for cameras, the phone is definitely worth looking at. Especially considering the cameras and in-display fingerprint sensor, it’s value for the money.
Up until now, the major contenders for Mi A3 include Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A50 and Huawei Y9 Prime. There’s tough competition between all of these phones for the top 3 best smartphones under Rs 30,000. Each and every phone compliments the other whether its in terms display, processor or camera.
The 720p AMOLED display sure is nice and it beats the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Huawei Y9 Prime but the Galaxy A50 with a 1080p AMOLED display is definitely better. When camera is concerned, the Mi A3 takes the lead. Processor wise its not that great but the 4/6GB RAM should be able to back it up quite well. All in all, it’s a really good device and I would consider it when buying a phone under Rs 30,000.
We will be reviewing the phone in-depth once we get our hands on the phone. What are your thoughts on the Mi A3? Feel free to tell us in the comments below!
