The Y-series from VIVO has been around for a long time. It had some good phone under its domain and the recently launched Y17 is a good example. Lining up after Y17 and Y15, the VIVO Y12 is the third addition to the low tier mid-range category from VIVO. It was recently launched in India and now has arrived in Nepal as well. The VIVO Y12 price in Nepal is set at Rs 21,990.

What changes are there in the newest addition? Let’s have a quick look at the specifications.

Starting off with the build, the front is made up of glass while rest of the body is entirely polycarbonate. The front houses a front camera with a water-drop display while the rear consists of a triple camera setup and a fingerprint sensor. A regular old setup for the mid-range category. However, if you’re more into the looks, definitely go the Burgundy Red Variant. It has a nice appeal to it.The VIVO Y12 stands at 6.32” with a HD+ IPS LCD Display and still comes with a 720p panel. It’s the same as most mid-range phones in it’s categories like Redmi Note 7, Samsung Galaxy A30. Not the best display but still considerable for a phone at this price.

Moving on, it consists of a MediaTek Helio P22 Processor, a more camera-oriented processor known for its superior camera capabilities. However, this is a more power-efficient processor so don’t expect outstanding gaming performance. For now, the phone is only available in the 3/64GB variant.

The main highlighting feature of this phone for me is the 5000mAh battery. Considering the power-efficient processor, this massive battery could even last 2 days with medium usage. Not having to charge the phone for almost two days is a really cool feature that many people including myself would appreciate.

Now comes the other highlighting feature, the triple camera setup. This VIVO Y12 has a 13MP primary lens combined with an 8MP ultrawide lens and 2MP depth sensor. It’s the same as expensive VIVO Y15 and Y17 which was a good camera as far as I remember. And since the processor is also camera-oriented, the camera is definitely something to look out for. The 8MP front camera is a differentiating factor from its older siblings, which frankly isn’t enough.

There isn’t that much of a difference in the new VIVO Y12 from its elder siblings. And frankly, I don’t think it’s worth the value. There are others at the same price which are much better in terms of performance and camera.

Especially the Redmi Note 7 Pro at Rs. 24,999. At Rs. 3000 more, there are a lot of features like powerful processor, better camera and optimized performance that make the Redmi Note 7 Pro in overall the better choice. The 1080 display, Snapdragon 675 processor, known for its performance, the 48MP camera that takes some interesting photos, and fast charging. These features clearly justify that the VIVO Y12 is easily overshadowed by Redmi Note 7 Pro.

VIVO Y12 Specifications
