Vivo Y95 Launched in Nepal; Comes with 20MP AI Camera

The last phone that Vivo launched in Nepal was the Vivo Y91i. That was a budget phone that we thought didn’t quite deserve the price it demanded. Vivo Y95 is a phone in a different price segment. The price of Vivo Y95 starts at Rs. 31490.

Typical to Vivo, the design of the Vivo Y95 is alluring. Even the budget model of Vivo phones look good to the eyes. At the front, Vivo Y95 has an HD+ 6.22 inch IPS LCD display. There’s a tiny teardrop-shaped notch at the top. The phone packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This setup looks good until we see the processor inside. Inside, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 Soc.

In terms of Camera, Vivo Y95 sports a dual 12MP f/2.2 primary sensor that is combined with a 2 MP, f/2.4 depth sensor at the back. There’s a small 20 MP f/2.0 selfie camera hiding beneath the notch. Unlike some other phones that we have seen from Vivo in the past year, Vivo Y95 has a regular fast fingerprint sensor at the back.

The Vivo Y95 has a massive 4030 mAh battery. It’s a shame that Vivo has chosen to fit this phone with a micro USB port. The headphone jack still lives.

Impressions

This phone is definitely not for pixel peepers with its HD+ resolution spread over the massive 6.22 inch display. It would be fine for the average user. But when I look at the price of this phone, I just can’t recommend this to anyone. Does Vivo think people in Nepal are dumb to funnel money into their overpriced phone? The Snapdragon 439 is not the most powerful chipset either.

It can handle calling and texting pretty well; apps like Instagram and Youtube will run well but you can forget about gaming or intensive multitasking, but considering the price, we don’t have a single remote clue as to why Vivo chose to go with a 400 series processor at this price range. This is just nuts. Who in their right minds would choose a phone with this processor over the Xiaomi Mi A2, or the Nova 3i, or the Realme 2 Pro? I won’t. And I suggest you guys don’t too.

The 4GB RAM is pretty generous and the 64GB of internal storage is more than enough for most people’s usage. We like the fact that Vivo has chosen to grace the Y95 with a fingerprint sensor instead of relying completely on a face unlock feature (that is what we have to praise Vivo for doing now!).

The cameras will produce bright and vibrant images on broad daylight and suitable lighting conditions. But I don’t expect them to work well in low-light conditions. One thing buyers would like to note is that Vivo tends to oversoften people’s faces to make it look more ‘beautiful’.

The one thing that I would like to applaud Vivo for is the battery on the phone. It is extremely huge even for a phone this size and it should last you a full day of heavy use with no complaints. If the battery is your top priority when buying a phone, Vivo Y95 may be well suited for you.

We told you in our pre-launch article that if this phone fell well below 30K, this would be a sweet deal. But it didn’t, and at this price (after crossing the 30K line), phones like Pocophone F1, Xiaomi Mi A2, Nova 3i, and more will slay it like a hot knife cutting butter. Use your head people. Know what you are getting for your money.
