Vivo came up with a motorized camera as the solution for bezel-less display with their Vivo Nex. It was a really cool solution where the front camera would pop up from the top. Then Oppo came with the Oppo Find X, where the whole camera module would slide up when you open the camera app. So, these two phones were the ones that came up with a radical solution to achieve the bezel-less display.
And, now Vivo is going for a dual display so that it can keep the bezels at its minimum. The way it works is, it has a dual screen, and the rear camera works as the front camera when you switch to the secondary screen. So, you can take a selfie with the rear camera. Basically, this phone will give you the highest quality selfies. Thus, the Vivo Nex 2 with dual display and 3 cameras was launched on Tuesday in China.
Specification Outline
The Vivo Nex 2 uses two AMOLED display panels; a 6.39 inches full HD+ display with the resolution of 1080×2340 at the front and a 5.49 inches full HD display with a screen resolution of 1080×1920. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Soc, along with 10GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
In terms of Camera, Vivo Nex 2 sports a 12MP primary sensor with OIS (f/1.79 aperture), a 2MP secondary night vision sensor (f/1.8 aperture), and a third TOF 3D stereo camera sensor. All of these sensors are on the back thus you’ll need to use the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone from the front. Whereas, the face unlock can be used while using the secondary screen.
In terms of battery, the Vivo Nex 2 has a 3,500 mAh battery which supports 22.5W fast charging. It does not part away with the 3.5mm headphone jack and uses a USB Type-C (v2.0) port.
Impressions
So, the Vivo Nex 2’s dual screen implementation is very interesting. There’s a button on the side which lets you switch between the displays and you can use both of the display in camera mode only. The triple camera arrangement on the back has a TOF (Time of Flight) sensor that can create a 3d model of your face, and VIVO said that it’s 3D face unlock on the VIVO Nex 2 is superior to the iPhone Xs.
The problem I think with the Nex 2 is that you cannot use the face unlock and in-display fingerprint sensor in unison. And, also one of the display will get pretty banged up. Else, I don’t have any problem with the dual display, and also selfie lovers can get an extremely high-quality selfie with it. But, it isn’t cheap!
The phone will go on sale in China on December 29th and is currently priced at 4,998 Yuan (Approx Npr. 83,564).
