The Ultima Thunder is a powerful party speaker for its budget. The brand says its latest offering is here to compete with similar offerings from international brands, which cost well over Rs. 50,000.

This seems like an indirect jab at the likes of JBL, whose PartyBox Club 120 and 320 costs Rs. 65,000 and Rs. 95,000, respectively.

Here, we will discuss the specifications and features of the just-released Ultima Thunder and see what makes it stand out from the competition.

Ultima Thunder Overview

Design

The Thunder is a new member of the Ultima’s Soundbox lineup. The design of the Ultima Thunder looks like any other Boombox on the market. It also looks similar to another speaker in the Soundbox series, the S50, but bigger.

The Ultima Thunder, just like the Soundbox S50, has a similar cylindrical body and a rigid handle, making it easy to carry. It has two rings on the handle to hook the side strap that comes included with the package.

A woven fabric covers the majority of its body, and the handle and casing are made from ABS plastic. It has RGB lights right under the handle and surrounds the two cones on either side. The speaker rests horizontally on two round rubber bases.

All the buttons and I/O ports sit right under the handle, which is covered by a rubber cap to avoid dust debris and water splashes. To top it off, the Thunder is IPX6-rated.

Audio

The Ultima Thunder has a 5.25” 50W subwoofer for handling the bass, two 2.75” 20W midrange drivers for — well, the midrange, and two 1.5” 10W tweeters for trebles.

The Thunder has an output capability of 110W, but Ultima also claims a peak output of 220W. This means that it offers 110W of continuous power, but it can handle short bursts of up to 220W. While cool, this metric does not really come into play much in real life.

If 110W output is not enough for you for some reason, there is this “Multi-Link” function you can use — more than later.

Connectivity

You can connect to the Ultima Thunder using Bluetooth 5.3. And if you have two or more Ultima Thunder, you can connect them just like any other TWS speaker and get a surround sound effect. And using the multi-link functionality, you can pair up to a 100 Ultima Thunder Speaker.

This speaker is already plenty loud, so a 100 of it sounds like overkill.

For wired connection, you can use a 3.5mm jack and a USB Type-A port, which supports pendrives of up to 64GB.

The microphone on the Ultima Thunder allows you to activate Google Assistant and Siri on your phone via voice-activation controls and receive calls as well.

Battery

The Ultima Thunder gets its juice from a 7,000mAh battery that gives up to 7 hours of playback time at 50% volume and 3 hours at maximum volume. Both with the RGB turned off.

To charge the speaker, you can either use a normal 10W charger that takes 10 hours for a full charge or an 18W fast charger that only takes 6.5 hours.

The speaker acts as a power bank too, letting you charge small devices like smartphones, earbuds, and so on using the USB Type-A port with a power output of 10W.
