A telehealth care survey conducted in rural Nepal has shown that telemedicine can improve healthcare access for the women and girls in the area, reports Healthcare IT News.
The survey was conducted by Rajan Parajuli and Philippe Doneys in the Himalayan region of Nepal.
Why it matters:
- The results of the study have shown that telemedicine is preferable to the women and girls in rural areas. It might be owing to the reason that they can receive health care while being their own community and not have to make long-distance travel to health centers.
- According to the researchers, the study participants also said that telemedicine increased their comfort in seeking consultation for sexual and reproductive health matters.
The Details:
- For the study, the researchers obtained a total of 175 records of women and girls who had used telemedicine services.
- The telemedicine records were obtained from two hospitals in Kathmandu and three local telemedicine centers in western Nepal.
- They also took complete surveys from around 100 females in the area and spoke to other people in the area as well.
