Seres acquires the Aito trademark and patents from Huawei.
In a surprise move, Seres announced it will acquire the Aito trademark and patents from Huawei for $344 million.
Seres and Huawei began their partnership in 2021, combining Seres’ vehicle manufacturing expertise with Huawei’s advanced technology in intelligent systems and autonomous driving.
Their goal is to create innovative electric vehicles under the AITO brand, integrating Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system and autonomous driving systems to meet the rising demand for smart and eco-friendly vehicles.
This deal gives Seres 919 registered or pending trademark rights and 44 appearance patents from Huawei.
Despite Aito’s success, with over 46,000 units sold, the deal’s valuation seems lower than the speculated asset value, suggesting the transaction focuses on changing ownership while keeping Aito’s operations unchanged.
Huawei consistently emphasizes its stance of not building cars, and this transfer reaffirms that position.
Seres stands to benefit significantly from Aito’s growing sales momentum. With this acquisition, Seres can capitalize on Aito’s success and further strengthen its position in the smart vehicle market.
