Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra — the first smartwatch under its new Ultra-branded Galaxy Watch line — on July 10 at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.

And oh boy! It really reminds me of the Apple Watch Ultra. Even the names are similar: Apple Watch Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Actually, you can’t accuse Samsung of stealing the “Ultra” name because Samsung was the first to introduce and use the moniker Ultra in its top-of-the-line S series of smartphones and tablets. So, it’s only natural that Samsung would label its new rugged smartwatch with the Ultra name.

However, it cannot be denied that both the Apple Watch Ultra and the Galaxy Watch Ultra not only have similar names but also look like literal siblings, even down to the ads featuring a lot of orange themes.

Even the features are an awful lot like Apple. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra boasts a titanium build, a water resistance rating of up to 100 meters, a display with 3000 nits peak brightness, and an orange programmable button on the side called the Quick Button.

That being said, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is not entirely like the Apple Watch Ultra. It has some unique Samsung features such as a circular display and Galaxy AI capabilities. Let’s see in detail what other new features the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra offers!

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Galaxy Watch Ultra comes in a single size of 47mm, and it is big and heavy, weighing 60.5g. Like previous Samsung watches, the Ultra also has a circular Super AMOLED display that measures 1.5 inches diagonally. The display has a 480 x 480 pixels resolution and a peak brightness of 3000 nits.

However, the shape of the watch is not circular because the circular screen now sits on a beefy square body, which puts it closer to the way the Apple Watch Ultra (or Watch Ultra 2) looks. The frame of the watch is built from grade 4 titanium as opposed to grade 5 titanium of the Apple Watch Ultra.

The right side of the frame has a new orange button called the Quick Button, which can be customized to trigger a variety of features, similar to Apple’s Action Button.

In terms of durability, the front of the watch is protected by sapphire crystal, and the entire body offers IP68 water and dust protection and 10ATM water resistance, meaning it is water-resistant for 10 minutes at a depth of 100 meters.

Hardware

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is powered by the Exynos W1000 processor, Samsung’s first 3nm processor. The W1000 features a big.LITTLE architecture with a Cortex-A78 core running at up to 1.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 1.5GHz.

Samsung says the Exynos W1000 is much more efficient and three times faster than the previous W930. Moreover, the watch has 32GB storage and 2GB RAM.

Health and Features

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is targeted towards athletes. It features a new Multi-sports tile that allows you to track multi-course workouts for a triathlon, from swimming to cycling.

With the help of AI, the Galaxy Watch Ultra can also measure the Functional Threshold Power (FTP) metric, which is the maximum power you can sustain on a bicycle for an hour.

The FTP is calculated automatically when cycling occurs at a mid to high-intensity level for more than four minutes with the cycling power meter attached to your bicycle (sold separately), saving hours of manual calculation.

Galaxy Watch Ultra also provides a Personalized HR Zone, so you can work out at optimal intensity levels based on your physical capabilities.

The BioActive sensor can measure key health metrics including heart rate and oxygen saturation. Additionally, it can also measure blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG). However, the ECG may not be available in Nepal.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is the first of its kind to be authorized by the US FDA for detecting the signs of sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common and chronic sleep condition that often goes undiagnosed and untreated.

The Watch can also provide the Advanced Glycation End-products (AGE) index. AGEs are harmful compounds formed when protein or fat combine with sugar in the bloodstream.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is also the first smartwatch powered by Wear OS 5 in partnership with Google. The Wear OS is topped with Samsung’s One UI Watch.

The software brings Galaxy AI features including Energy Score, Suggested Replies, FTP metric, and AI-enhanced sleep tracker.

Energy Score with Galaxy AI analyzes key indicators of your overall condition and gives you a daily score. Suggested Replies with Galaxy AI offers quick text-reply suggestions based on the context of your conversation.

Furthermore, similar to Apple’s double tap gesture for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, the Galaxy Watch supports double pinch gestures that let you capture photos, answer calls, or silence alarms with just a pinch.

Connectivity and Battery

Galaxy Watch Ultra features Samsung’s first dual-frequency GPS that uses the latest L5 frequency along with the L1 satellite signal. This helps pinpoint the precise location.

In addition, it has Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, and NFC. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, the Galaxy Watch Ulra only comes in only one LTE variant using an eSIM.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra has a 590mAh battery. Samsung claims the smartwatch lasts up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and up to 60 hours without power-saving mode, thanks to the optimization of hardware and software.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra Price in Nepal and Availability
