With the launch of Galaxy J8, the total number of phones that Samsung launched this month alone tallies up to 3. We saw Samsung release the Galaxy J6 at the beginning of this month and the Galaxy J4 somewhere in the middle. The Galaxy was their mid-midrange offering whereas the J4 was a low-mid range device. The J8, as its name suggests is more powerful and expensive than the Galaxy J4 and J6. But, the difference between the J6 and the J8 is not so substantial.
Samsung Galaxy J8 has a screen with an elongated aspect ratio that has become a norm by now. But the panel used is an AMOLED panel that is a rarity in this price point outside of the Galaxy phones. And once you get used to an OLED panel, you would not want to go back to LCD. Our only gripe with the screen is that it isn’t full HD. The sadder part is the build quality, or more specifically, the build material – plastic. Like phones from manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi that cost half of the price of this phone, come with a metal build.
Aesthetics aside, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 450. We are rather surprised that the Galaxy J8 doesn’t contain a chip of the Snapdragon 600 series because the price suggests it should. So, the performance is not what we’d expect at this price. The general performance will be smooth but you can’t expect this phone to let you game smoothly.

Samsung Galaxy J8 Price in Nepal:Â Rs. 33,490
What sets this phone apart from the Galaxy J6 is the screen size and the camera quality. The dual camera setup on the back gives you the option of portrait photos and the increased MegaPixel count means detailed and sharper images. The selfie camera has got a boost too. Most people would agree 16MP is plenty enough for a sensor that is mostly dedicated to capturing people’s faces only.
So, your choice for J8 over the J6 boils down to the screen size and the camera. The importance of each of these factors to you will help you decide if you want to keep the Galaxy J6 or Galaxy J8. But, if you are not a must-have-Samsung type of person then phones from Huawei and Xiaomi like the Huawei Nova 3e, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI are a far better value than what Samsung has to offer for the price.
