What is Samsung doing? The whole world was waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S10 to reveal itself in the spectacular fashion with an in-display fingerprint sensor and first triple lens setup from Samsung. But, Samsung, in a totally unexpected move, announced its first triple rear-camera phone yesterday. And it’s not the Galaxy S10. What?
Yes, you heard us right. Samsung released a triple rear camera phone and it is called the Galaxy A7. The cameras are stacked vertically at the left corner of the phone like the iPhone but the shape of the camera housing is somewhat boxier. The Galaxy A7 comes with a sure-to-be gorgeous 6-inch SuperAMOLED display, an octa-core 2.2GHz chipset (don’t know if it’s a Snapdragon or an Exynos yet), up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone also comes with 3300mAh battery.
By now, you probably are looking at the image and searching for the fingerprint sensor. And don’t worry, it’s not under the display. It is at the sides, embedded in the power button. This gives the phone a super-clean look on the back and the front. This makes us wonder that if Galaxy S10 couldn’t feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, this would be the look Samsung would be gunning for their flagship.
Now, let’s talk about the cameras. On the front of the device, you’ll find a single 24MP selfie shooter. That’s impressive in itself, but on the rear users are greeted with a triple camera setup. This consists of a primary 24MP lens with auto-focus and a f/1.7 aperture. This lens improves the quality of your photos by combining four pixels into one when in low-light conditions using a technique known as pixel binning. There’s also a 5MP f/2.2 “Depth Lens” which is used to produce bokeh effect. The third lens is an 8MP f/2.4 Ultra-Wide lens that has 120 degrees field of view which lets you capture more from less distance. It is especially useful for capturing shots of tall buildings and gorgeous vistas.
The Galaxy A7 is an interesting device, especially because of its name. If Samsung can afford to put triple cameras in it’s midrange phone, think of the fun things that Samsung Galaxy S10 can get. As this is a device aimed at the European and Asian market, we might be able to get our hands on it soon. Stay tuned for that.
