With Xiaomi gobbling up most of the customers from mid-range and budget segment, it seems as though even major companies of the game is in a tight spot. Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 8/8 Pro and Redmi K20/K20 Pro completely enclose the mid-range segment and are ruling with utmost domination. It’s because of this immense pressure, that even Samsung has cracked.
Within an interval of 3 months starting from it’s launch, there’s been 3 major price drops on the Samsung A50s. With the price drop just a few days ago, Samsung has indeed gone for the hattrick! Yup, now the total number of price drops is 3 but can you guess the total drop amount up until now? Well, I’ll save you the hassle and tell you right away, its ….. Rs 8,600!The excuse this time, is part of Samsung’s “Christmas offer”. The best part is that, it’s not just A50s, there are some other phones showcased in this offer as well. But the center of attention this time is Galaxy A50s. With a discount of Rs 8,600, the phone is now left for dead at Rs 33,599.
The Samsung Galaxy A50s comes with triple rear camera setup, prism finish on the back, and Exynos 9611 chipset. But after 3 back-to-back price drops is it still worth buying this phone? Let’s find out.
Samsung A50s Quick Look
So, starting off looks wise there’s almost no difference between this and the previous model. It has the same “glastic” finish on the rear with the original vertical triple camera layout. The front outlines the same Infinity U display with the chin again eating up a little bit of the screen. However, there is one noticeable change. The prism finish on the back which supposedly reflects light off the back.

Display wise, it’s the one that’s been rocking in every mid-ranged Samsung devices. The 6.04” sAMOLED display at 1080p resolution is a thing of beauty. The screen is well balanced overall and is pretty good to look at.
Under the hood, the phone has an Octa-Core Exynos 9611 chipset coupled with 6Gb RAM. In comparison to the A50, it’s just a minor upgrade in terms of performance. The slightly overclocked CPU is smooth in terms of gaming and other everyday activities. Storage should be quite enough as well with 128Gb in-built memory.
The most noteworthy change on the phone is the improvement in the camera department. On the rear, the smartphone has a triple camera bearing 48MP with f/2.0 using the Sony IMX582 sensor, 8MP for ultra-wide-angle and 5MP depth sensor lens. At the front, there’s a notch at the top which houses the 32MP front camera, and an integrated fingerprint sensor which is positioned conveniently.
The main camera is capable of 4K videos at 30fps which is a significant upgrade to the 1080p limitation of the A50. What’s more interesting is that the A50s brings the AR doodle from the Note 10+ which is rather cool in my opinion.
Finally, we have the battery. There’s not much to talk about the battery. It’s the identical 4000mAh battery with 15W charger. It’s good and it should easily last about a day with medium usage.

Samsung Galaxy A50s Price in Nepal and Impressions
I know, the A50s is a pretty mid-ranger. The display, processor, camera array and battery are close to a perfect mid-range combination. But do you know, what the main problem with this device was? The initial price bar for this device was set so high that it basically nullified all the perfect qualities of the device. Frankly, if it’d been placed in the same price as it currently is, it would have more sense. And then maybe the sales wouldn’t have been as bad as it for Samsung right now.
If you’ve been comparing this device with the A50, you may have noticed that there’s not much upgrade to this device. It’s just plain old A50 with a slight improved camera, RAM and internal storage. I admit the A50 had set the bars a little higher, but at this price I’m really unsatisfied with the upgrade. I might as well go for the A50 whose price (Rs. 26,690 for 4/64GB) seems a lot more reasonable right now.

At this point, there’s just no turning back, I guess. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has the entire mid-range market held on so tight that the price drops at this point just doesn’t won’t make that much of a difference. In terms of camera, processing, storage flexibility and battery, Redmi Note 8 Pro’s got the upper hand.
So, you get the point, right? Well that was all of our thoughts on the device. What do you think? Feel free to mention it in the comments below.
