Design

Samsung slaps the same design on all of their A-series phones. All of them look like the Samsung S23 from the rear. There’s a triple-camera ring on a flat panel and a Samsung logo on the bottom.

The back panel is made out of plastic but looks like glass at first glance. The rear panel has a glossy finish, it catches fingerprints and smudges quite easily.

The frame is also made out of plastic and has a matte finish. To be fair, the plastic back and frame do not look cheap at all. But that’s not the case when you look at its front design.

Latest Mobile Prices

Samsung is still rolling out phones with a dew-drop notch in this price segment. The side bezels are fine but the chin is thick compared to other phones at this price tag.

Samsung A24 is available in three colors: Dark Red, Green, and Silver. We have tested both Red and Silver color variants but we prefer the Silver color.

Overall, Samsung A24 offers a solid build and it is easy to handle as well. It is a good-looking phone but thinner bezels and hole punch would have made it even better.

On top, the A24 has a single microphone. The bottom houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, mic, USB-c port, and speaker. The single speaker setup is loud and the sound quality is okayish.

On the left, A24 has a triple slot that takes two nano-SIM cards and a microSD. The volume and power buttons are on the right side. The power button also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, it is always on, fast and reliable.

Display

  • 6.5 inches AMOLED
  • 1080 x 2340 pixels
  • 90Hz, 1000 nits (peak)

Display

Samsung has upgraded the display from a TFT to AMOLED. Unlike the Samsung A23, the A24 has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel.

It is a 1080p panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits of peak brightness. There is no support for HDR though. Nonetheless, the AMOLED panel has vivid colors and impressive viewing angles.

The display looks sharp which makes for an enjoyable content viewing experience.

The 90Hz refresh rate makes the experience even better. The display feels fast and smooth which in turn makes the phone feel faster. However, it doesn’t support dynamic refresh rates. At a 90Hz refresh rate, static content and video playback also use 90Hz, the only exception is the camera app.

Performance

Samsung’s budget phones are usually underpowered and mostly equipped with Exynos chipset. But, the Samsung A24 comes with MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. It is certainly one of the best chipsets on a smartphone under Rs. 30,000.

Along with an Octa-core (2×2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU, it comes with 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. For GPU, it uses the Mali-G57 MC2.

The A24 does pretty well in benchmarks as well. The scores are similar to the average scores of other phones with Helio G99.

Rather than numbers, I rely on experience and this phone is fast. The phone is quick when navigating the UI, opening apps, and switching between apps. It doesn’t feel slow at all. Plus, it is pretty good at gaming too.

We tested PUBG mobile at Balanced graphics and Ultra frame rate. We were getting average fps of 40 without any frame drops. Likewise, it can run Genshin Impact smoothly on low settings as well.

Camera

Samsung A24 has a triple camera on the rear with a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front, it has a 13MP selfie camera.

Main Camera

The main camera is not exceptional but it is good for the price. The dynamic range is wide and the exposure is balanced as well. Likewise, the photos have Samsung’s signature saturated color profile. However, the details are on the lower side.

Ultrawide

The 5MP ultrawide sensor is only average. The photos look dull but the exposure is well balanced. The ultrawide photos have plenty of noise but the color profile is similar to the main sensor. Also, the distortion correction is excellent on the A24.

Portrait

A24 captures impressive portraits with nice colors, good edge detection, and impressive background blur. The subject is always on focus and the skin tone also looks natural.

Selfie

The selfies look decent in daylight situations. There’s a good amount of detail on the face and the face has a natural tone as well. The HDR also works well to control the highlights in the background. But, the indoor selfies introduce noise and it lacks sharpness.

Videos

The Samsung A24 can capture up to 1080p 30fps with the primary camera. If you capture videos in daylight, the video looks sharp with nice colors and balanced exposure. Plus, the OIS also helps in stabilization. We compared it against the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and it captured better videos than the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G.

Battery & OS

  • Non-removable Li-Po 5000mAh battery
  • 25W Fast Charging, Type-C
  • Android 13, One UI 5.1
Android 13

Samsung A24 comes with a 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging. In moderate usage, the A24 can last more than a day with 6-7 hours of screen time. Even though it supports fast charging, Samsung doesn’t provide any kind of charger in the box.

One UI on the Samsung A24 feels fast, smooth, and refined.

The A24 runs on the full version of the One UI 5.1 So, it gets most of the features that you get on the flagship S23 series. Likewise, Samsung has promised 4 years of OS upgrades and updates on the A24. Samsung is the only manufacturer to support more than 2 years of OS upgrades on a midrange phone.

So, this is my Samsung Galaxy A24 review. What do you think about the phone? If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments!
