Oppo Reno 12 5G Overview
Design
Looking at the Reno 12, it is now flatter compared to the Oppo Reno 11. Its plastic back features a stylish curtain design that shimmers and gives off a pearlescent finish when it catches the light.
The camera setup has also changed; it’s now on a rectangular island rather than the old pill shape found in its predecessor, and all the cameras are neatly arranged in a vertical orientation.
The side rails of the phone are also flat and have a shiny metallic finish. On the right side, you’ll find the power and volume buttons. The bottom has a USB-C port and SIM card slot, while the top features what looks like an infrared blaster.
For protection, Oppo has given the Reno 12 double-curved Gorilla Glass 7i on the screen and IP65 dust and water resistance.

Display
On the front, the phone has a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display that’s surrounded by thin uniform bezels on all sides. In terms of resolution, the panel has a total resolution of 1080 x 2412 px which gives it a pixel density of 394 ppi.
The display also has a 120Hz refresh rate, so using it feels smooth. Besides that, the panel also supports HDR10+ content, which makes colors and visuals look vibrant.
Lastly, the phone has an optical fingerprint sensor underneath the display for biometrically authenticating and allowing easy access to the device.
Hardware
Oppo has put in a 4nm Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Energy processor inside the Reno 12. The successor to the Dimensity 7050 comes with 4x 2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 and 4x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, making it an octa-core chip. Accompanying it is a Mali-G615 graphics processor which handles all the graphics processing.
According to Oppo, MediaTek says that this Dimensity processor is 30% more efficient while managing to deliver the same level of processing power when compared to their 6nm brethren.
In terms of memory, the phone comes with 12GB of RAM that’s accompanied by 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For added storage, the phone supports a microSD card as well.
Cameras
The phone has four cameras, three on the back and one in the front. The main camera is a 50MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.8 and supporting OIS.
The main camera is accompanied by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide, and a basic 2MP, f/2.4 macro camera. This time, Oppo has included some neat AI features that help you edit and enhance your photos. Besides that, there’s also a Pro Portrait Mode where you can apply various filters to your portrait photo to give it a professional look.
On the front, inside the punch-hole cutout, you can find the 32MP selfie camera that has PDAF and can take HDR images.
Video-wise, both the rear main camera and the selfie camera can shoot up to 4K at 30 frames per second.
Battery and OS
When compared with its predecessor, the phone now charges the battery at a much higher 80W of power instead of the 67W in the Reno 11 5G. However, the battery capacity remains the same at 5000mAh.
Oppo claims that with the energy-efficient processor, the battery gives a 2.07-day backup, and with the fast charge technology, the battery charges from 0 to 100% in just 47 minutes.
The phone comes pre-loaded with Android 14 and has ColorOS 14.1 skin applied on top. Oppo has promised up to 2 major Android upgrades on the Reno 12.
Some neat features of the ColorOS include Aqua Dynamics which organizes notifications on the top of the screen, Holo Audio which helps balance sound output using spatial audio technology, and File Dock which organizes files, images, and text into a unified easy-to-access space.
