According to recent reports, eleven crore and thirty-three lakhs have been collected through the online bill payment service started by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The facility of paying electricity bill online had started in Kathmandu on the 5th of April.
Mahalakshmi Development Bank, E-Service, Prabhu Bank, SFFS Remit, Pay-point Pvt. Ltd., City Express Money Transfer, Himalayan Bank, Nepal Investment Bank and Nepal Clearing House Limited have received the permission for online payment. There are more than 15 thousand branches and counters of these service providers throughout the country.
According to Prahlad Katwal, Assistant Accounting Officer of Ratnapark distribution center, in the beginning, only 10-15 people used to pay the bills online. But now more than 80 customers from Ratnapark Transport Distribution Centers are paying bills online.
Most of the customers that are paying online use the eSewa service. Katwal informed that from 75 customers, who paid electricity bill online, 43 of them used eSewa.
In the first month, the government raised one crore thirty-four lakh and fifty-three thousand rupees by online payment whereas in the second month it raised two crores thirty-two lakhs and ninety-eight thousand. Similarly, three crores seventy-five lakh and twenty-two thousand was received in the month of Kartik. Then during the fourth month, three crores eighty-nine lakh and fourteen thousand was received.
Apart from Kathmandu Valley, the service of online electricity bill payment has started at Pokhara, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Jhapa, Janakpur, Birgunj, and Surkhhet.
The preparations are being made by the government to make online electricity payment available and the only payment method all over the country.
