OnePlus 8 Overview
Design
OnePlus 8 is very similar to the OnePlus 8 Pro. The rear panel is made of glass with satin finish and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 5. There’s a triple-camera setup on the rear and on the front, there’s a hole-punch and an under-display optical fingerprint sensor.
The glass back is curved along the edges where it meets the body-colored aluminum frame. The difference between OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is the camera setup and the IP68 certification. OnePlus 8 doesn’t have IP68 water and dust resistance like the 8 Pro.

Display
Unlike OnePlus 8 Pro’s 120Hz refresh rate display, OnePlus 8 only has a 90Hz display. It also has a smaller 6.55 inches FHD Fluid AMOLED display compared to OnePlus 8 Pro’s 6.78 inches QHD display panel. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 as well.
OnePlus 8 also misses out on MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation Technology) which is available on the 8 Pro.
The bezels are quite thin and similar to that of the OnePlus 8 Pro. On top of that, it also supports HDR10+ so you can easily watch HDR content on the OnePlus 8 too.
Hardware
OnePlus 8 uses the same chipset as the OnePlus 8 Pro; the Snapdragon 865 chipset. It’s a 7nm chipset with Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585) chipset and Adreno 650 GPU. Furthermore, it also supports 5G ready.
Then it comes with 256GB UFS 3.0 storage and 12GB RAM.
OnePlus 8 Pro is one of the fastest phones out there. Though it is not rocking the latest 865+ chipset, there’s not much difference among the Snapdragon 865 and the 865+.
Camera
Now, this is where OnePlus 8 is far behind its Pro variant. OnePlus 8 rocks a 48MP main camera which is used on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Then it has a 16MP Ultrawide sensor with 116-degree FOV and a 2MP Macro sensor.
The main sensor is the Sony IMX 586 sensor which was used in last year’s OnePlus 7 Pro. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 8 Pro gets a new 48MP Sony IMX 689 sensor, then a 48MP Ultrawide angle camera (IMX 586 sensor), an 8MP Telephoto lens, and a 5MP color filter sensor.
On the front, it has a 16MP sensor for selfies. It’s the same sensor as the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Battery
Underneath, OnePlus 8 has 4300 mAh battery which should last for more than a day even with a 90Hz refresh rate. Then, to juice up its battery, it comes with 30W Fast Charging which claims 50% charge in 23 min. But it doesn’t have 30W wireless charging which is available on the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Then, it runs on Oxygen OS 10 on top of Android 10. It should be getting the Oxygen OS 11 update very soon.

OnePlus 8 is a cheaper flagship from the OnePlus for 2020. It uses the same chipset as the OnePlus 8 Pro. So, it will have a similar performance to the OnePlus 8 Pro.
However, OnePlus 8 Pro has a better camera setup with a new main sensor, a telephoto lens, an ultrawide lens, and a color filter. And, OnePlus 8 Pro has a better display as well.
Then, OnePlus 8 Pro comes with 30W wireless charging too. Currently, OnePlus 8 Pro is available for Rs. 110,000 (8/128) and Rs. 125,000 (12/256). So, the price difference is Rs. 32,000 for the same storage variant. So, I think it’s better to go for the 128GB variant of the OnePlus 8 Pro rather than the OnePlus 8.
The upgraded display and better camera are definitely worth it. Or, you could go for the Mi10 if you don’t mind the MIUI.
