OnePlus, they started out as an enthusiast brand and now it is one of the most loved smartphones brands. If you beg to differ then you should know that OnePlus managed to capture 48 percent share of premium smartphone market in India (as reported by International Data Corporation’s (IDC) in Q4, 2017).
Meanwhile, OnePlus 6, the companies next flagship phone is on the horizon. And lately, there has been plenty of rumors and leaks surrounding the OnePlus 6. One of the latest leaks even suggests that OnePlus 6 will cost 749$. So, no more flagship killer from OnePlus? However, the hottest rumor seems to be the larger display with a notch at the top just like the iPhone X. Already disappointed? Well, the controversial notch is slowly creeping up on Android smartphones. And, with the added support for the notch on the Android P, it seems inevitable.
Along with a notch at the top, OnePlus is sure to have a top-notch hardware with Snapdragon 845 SoC plus an improved camera and battery as well. Let’s hope we also get to see a screen resolution beyond Full HD but it seems pretty unlikely.
However, we’ve got a lot of information about the upcoming phone, so here’s everything that’s been floating around on the internet about the OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 Rumor RoundUp
OnePlus 6 Release Date
- OnePlus 6 expected to release sooner than June 2018
OnePlus released OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 3 in June of their respective years. Therefore, June 2018 is the most prominent release date for the OnePlus 6 but there have been rumors suggesting that it will be released as soon as April or May 2018.
GizmoChina even claimed that it will be announced in mid-March and hit stores by the end of March. But yeah that’s not happening!
OnePlus 6 Design, Display, and Leaked Images
- Notch similar to the iPhone X
- A similar design like the OPPO R15 and VIVO X21
- Dual Camera with a fingerprint sensor on the glass back
- 6.28 AMOLED Screen (2280×1080)
- Inbuilt fingerprint like the one on the VIVO X21?
Courtesy of ITHome, we got to see one of the first leaks of the OnePlus 6. The picture shows a leaked model of the OnePlus 6 that has a glass-like surface at the back housing a dual camera setup along with a fingerprint sensor. And, a freaking notch at the top of the screen! Also, the same leak shows the notification toggle at the right side instead of the usual left. Now, we saw the glass back from OnePlus on the OnePlus X and it won’t come as a surprise on the OnePlus 6. However, the notch at the top seems like a step forward along the path of iPhone X and I hope this is not true.
OnePlus, VIVO and OPPO share the same parent company, BBK Electronics. And, OnePlus has not shied away from using a similar design to that of the phones from OPPO. As a matter of fact, OnePlus 5T almost shared the same design & hardware as the OPPO R11s. Therefore, the new OnePlus 6 could look like the all new OPPO R15. As a OnePlus fan, I do not think that OnePlus will settle for the notch. And it would be a huge let down if its design is anything like the OPPO R15 or the iPhone X. Previously, OnePlus 5 was heavily criticized for having a similar design to the iPhone 7, therefore I expect that OnePlus will not go for an iPhone like design this time. On the other hand, I would love to see an inbuilt fingerprint on the OP 6. What about you?
OnePlus 6 Expected Price
- Latest leak suggests pricetag of $749 for the 256GB variant
Price has always been creeping up each year with the new release from OnePlus. So, assuming it would do the same, OnePlus 6 should cost around $530 – $540 for the 64GB variant. Now, one of the leaks suggested that it will cost $749 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage version.
But, the same leak also had price listings for the 256GB iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus which did not match the current price in USD. So, according to the list the OnePlus 6 costs half the iPhone X and if we are to estimate the price of OnePlus 6 with the help of iPhone X’s current price. Then, it would cost around 575 USD as 256GB variant of iPhone X is priced at 1149 USD currently.
OnePlus 6 Specification (Processor, Camera, Storage, and Battery)
According to a recent listing leak from TechSlize, OnePlus 6 will have a larger 6.28 inch AMOLED Screen with a resolution of 2280×1080. Unsurprisingly, Snapdragon 845 will be the SoC and the OS is listed as Android Oreo 8.1.
The rear camera of the OnePlus 6 is listed as 16 MP + 20 MP with a f/1.7 aperture on both lenses, which is exactly the same setup as the predecessor OnePlus 5T. The selfie shooter has been boosted with a f/2.0 20 MP sensor as per the list.
Moving on to the storage option, we might get to see the 6GB + 128GB combo. Meanwhile one of the other leaks shows a listing of OnePlus 6 with 8GB RAM and 256GB Storage option. Now, this might mean we may get to see two different RAM variants of the OnePlus 6.
The battery on the OnePlus 6 seems to be listed as 3450 mAh which is again similar to that of the OPPO R15. So, at the moment it is quite uncertain what OnePlus will do with the OnePlus 6. Personally, I think that they won’t settle for a similar design to that of the OPPO R15. And also it will be unlike OnePlus to manufacture a phone that costs as much as the S9’s.
What We Expect to See
- Under-screen fingerprint scanner
- QHD Display
- Better audio & battery
- Better camera
OnePlus has stuck with an FHD screen for a long time and its time that OnePlus upgrade their display now. Also, it would be awesome to see a QHD+ screen on a 6.28 inch AMOLED display.
Audio on the OnePlus devices has never been great. Even Samsung has gone for a stereo speaker so it is only fair that the new flagship killer has the same.
An Under-screen fingerprint is now a reality with the all-new VIVO X21 and I would love to see an under-screen fingerprint on the OnePlus 6. However, the first gen under-screen fingerprint is not that great but still, I would love one on the OP6.
Samsung S9 came with an all-new variable aperture camera so OnePlus should definitely up their camera game if they are to compete against the top-notch flagships. However, its hard for OnePlus as they need to keep their phone under that budget price margin.
Now, we just need to wait and see what OnePlus comes up with. I hope the OnePlus 6 will be able to compete against the other flagships. And while doing so it would be awesome if there were no notch?
