Nothing, stylized as ‘NOTHING‘, is a British smartphone manufacturer founded by OnePlus’ co-founder Carl Pei on October 29, 2020. Nothing’s popularity and driving factor is its ability to provide smartphones that are distinctly unique and instantly recognizable by people.

Besides smartphones, the company also makes accessories like the Nothing Ear 2 and the Nothing Ear Stick that have the same transparent design.

In 2023, the company also introduced its sub-brand, CMF by Nothing, which focuses on providing budget accessories like smartwatches, TWS earbuds, and chargers. The CMF Phone 1 is its first phone.

Here in Nepal, Nothing is still a smartphone brand that has yet to become a household name, as the brand is recognized mostly by tech enthusiasts and aficionados.

However, CG Mobile plans to change that notion by being the official distributor of Nothing smartphones for the Nepalese market.

Nothing Phone 2a Plus

The Nothing Phone 2a Plus is an improved version of the Nothing Phone 2a. They both look very similar, but there are some welcome changes. It comes with a more powerful Dimensity 7350 Pro 5G chip, an upgraded 50MP front camera, and a faster 50W charging.

The design of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus is almost identical to the Nothing Phone 2a, with its transparent back, Glyph lights, and eyes-like two cameras in the upper center surrounded by an NFC coil.

As for the changes, the red dot video capture indicator on the back is gone, and now the 2a Plus comes with new color options: metallic grey and updated black.

The display remains the same at a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution. Nothing claims the screen can achieve 1300 peak brightness and 1100 nits under HBM.

As for the performance, the Nothing Phone 2a Plus is powered by the Dimensity 7350 Pro chip, a tweaked version of the Dimensity 7350 chip developed exclusively for Nothing, which is an upgrade to the Dimensity 7200 Pro.

The rear camera setup consists of a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera, which is the same as the Phone 2a. The front camera has been upgraded to a new 50MP selfie camera.

The Phone 2a has the standard 5000mAh battery, while the charging speed is now rated for 50W, which is faster than before.

The Nothing Phone 2a Plus is largely the same as the Nothing Phone 2a. For a small price increment, you will get nice improvements such as better selfie camera and newer chip.

CMF Phone 1

CMF Phone 1 Summary

The CMF Phone 1 is the first phone from Nothing’s subbrand CMF. It has an interchangeable back and is powered by a capable processor. The main camera is great, but it lacks an ultrawide camera.

The CMF Phone 1 has a unique, removable back panel secured by exposed screws. There is also a wheel in the bottom corner that serves as an anchor for attaching accessories.

The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display has a Full HD+ resolution and supports 120Hz refresh rate. The colors and brightness of the display are good, and the refresh rate is well-optimized.

The phone is powered by Dimensity 7300 chipset, which is better than the Helio G99 and Dimensity 7050 chipset. Despite what the name suggests, the Dimensity 7300 is not necessarily more powerful than the Dimensity 7200. Nevertheless, it offers great performance for day-to-day use and gaming.

The CMF Phone 1 has a 50MP main camera accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. Sadly, the phone does not have an ultrawide camera. The CMF Phone 1 takes good shots with pleasing colors and sharp detail.

The 5000mAh battery provides 6–8 hours of screen-on-time, meaning it can last throughout the day. The 33W charging takes around 1.5 hours to fully charge the battery.

You can go for the CMF Phone 1 if you want a a unique, interchangeable back design, good performance, solid main camera, and the Nothing OS experience. However, the phone lacks an ultrawide camera and has a mono speaker.

Nothing’s budget-focused smartphone, the Nothing phone 2a, comes with Nothing’s signature design but has simplified the overall look, changed some design elements, and included fewer Glyph Lights. Some features found in the Nothing Phone 1 and 2 have been removed in the Phone 2a to make it more budget-friendly.

The Nothing Phone 2a is Nothing’s budget-focused smartphone that comes with the same design language as its more expensive counterparts, the Nothing Phone 1 and the Nothing Phone 2. The smartphone is also certified IP54 dust and water-resistant.

Material-wise, Nothing has opted for plastic instead of glass for the back panel that showcases the Glyph Lights and the internal designs of the smartphone. The phone has also foregone metal for the side rails and opted for plastic ones instead.

The display of the Nothing Phone 2a is a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels. The display can reach a maximum brightness of 700nits and a peak brightness of 1300nits.

A MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor powers the smartphone. This is a decently powerful processor that gives excellent performance in both daily tasks and while playing games. The performance of this processor can be compared to the likes of, or sometimes even better than, the Snapdragon 782G and Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

The Nothing Phone 2a comes with a dual camera setup. Both the rear cameras are 50MP shooters, but one lens is the main camera and the other is ultrawide. The selfie camera is a 32MP shooter.

Powering the device is a 5000mAh Li-Po battery that supports 45W fast charging.

Nothing’s budget offering, the Nothing Phone 2a, while being cheaper, is no slouch and manages to deliver exceptional performance while incorporating a stylish design at a lower price than the Nothing Phone 1 and Nothing Phone 2.

Nothing’s second smartphone, the Nothing Phone 2, improves upon every aspect of the Nothing Phone 1 from design to performance. The Phone 2 still retains the transparent glass back but now comes in a curved 2.5D shape and the internal designs are more detailed than ever. The Glyph lights have more zones and are even more customizable.

The display of the Nothing Phone 2 is a 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels. It is certified HDR10+ and can reach a peak brightness of 1600nits.

The processor in this phone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is 2022’s flagship-level processor found on devices such as Samsung’s Fold 4 and Samsung’s Flip 4. An Adreno 730 GPU handles the graphics.

The Nothing Phone 2 has a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera placed in a corner vertically. The main camera has OIS and is capable of shooting in HDR. The front camera is a 32MP shooter.
