Nothing decided to forego the numbering scheme and simplify its product names by renaming its earbuds as simply the Nothing Ear (a) and the Nothing Ear. Both of these earbuds were launched after the Nothing Ear (2) and are currently Nothing’s latest offering in the market.

Nothing Ear (a) Overview
Design
The Nothing Ear (a) comes in a rectangle-shaped clamshell with Nothing’s signature transparent design language. The top lid is a clear see-through plastic and the underside is in either black, white, or yellow plastic. You can find the Nothing logo printed on the transparent lid. The case is certified IPX2 splash-resistant.
Opening the device, you can find the earbuds facing opposite each other resting horizontally in the case. The Bluetooth pairing button is on the right and the LED indicator is on the left.
Talking about the earbuds, they look identical to the Nothing Ear 2 and the Nothing Ear (stick). The earbuds have a brightly colored oval-shaped body with a transparent stem. They come with silicone ear tips that have the same color as the earbuds’ body. They are also certified IP54 dust and water-resistant.

Features
The Nothing Ear (a) earbuds come packed with features that help enhance the audio listening experience. The company has included Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) that helps suppress and cancel out outside noise up to 45dB.
Nothing has upped its ANC game by having Smart ANC which checks for noise leakages between your ear and the earbud to apply more noise cancellation, and Adaptive ANC, which applies the right amount of noise cancellation automatically when listening.
You can also customize the EQ, set custom controls, enhance bass, and change ANC levels manually through the Nothing X app.
One unique feature is the integration of ChatGPT which can be used for voice controls on the Nothing ecosystem. However, the feature will be available only when your Nothing Ear (a) is connected to a Nothing smartphone.
Battery and Connectivity
The Nothing Ear (a) comes with a 46mAh earbud battery and a 500mAh case battery. Nothing claims the batteries offer 9.5 hours of playback with ANC off or 5.5 hours with ANC on. The total playback time with the charging case is 42.5 hours with ANC off and 24.5 hours with ANC on.
The Nothing Ear (a) charges through a USB-C port. Nothing claims the battery can last up to 10 hours with 10 minutes of charge. The Nothing Ear (a) also supports wirelessly charging.
Connectivity-wise, the earbuds come with Bluetooth 5.3. The earbuds are capable of connecting up to two devices at the same time for easy changing between devices. Other connectivity features such as Google’s Fast Pair and Microsoft’s Swift Pair are also included. Moreover, the earbuds also feature a low-latency mode that reduces audio lag while gaming.
