Nokia 3.1 with 18:9 Display, 2990mAh Battery Launched, Price in Nepal is Rs. 22,350

Nokia isn’t the brand it used to be. That’s clear to anyone who uses a phone. Once the global market leader, the smartphone revolution brought the company tumbling down. But the name ‘Nokia’ is riding a wave of a comeback, thanks to HMD global which owns the brand now. It had a successful 2017 with phones like Nokia 6 and Nokia 3 appealing to masses. Nokia is bringing the second generation of those phones in 2018. The Nokia 3.1 was just launched in Nepal for Rs. 22,350.Nokia 3.1 is a budget phone from Nokia with the typical Nokia build quality, i.e. the phone is built like a tank. It features the new 18:9 aspect ratio but retains some thick bezels. While the phone is not ugly(it certainly looks good for the price), it won’t win design awards either. The display, though a 720p panel, is said to be better than expected at the price. It gets decently bright; Nokia’s panels are good for the price. But for 22K, a 1080p screen isn’t an unreasonable demand.

The performance of the phone, though, is another story. For 22K, you are getting a MediaTek 6750 inside which is comparable to the Snapdragon 425. Heck, for 22000, you can get a Mi A1 with a 1080p screen, larger storage and RAM, and a far better processor. So, Nokia does skimp on the performance department, unfortunately. If you really want the best bang for your money, the Mi A1 is your answer.

But the other aspects of Nokia 3 are better. Like the cameras. They are a little slow but they capture good enough photos in good lighting conditions. The 2990 mAh battery makes the phone last all day, and the speakers are loud enough for casual music listening. Nokia follows the Android One program which means you are getting near stock android and fast updates making these phones a sweet deal. But, you are missing on a key feature if you choose to buy this phone: the fingerprint sensor.

Not everyone wants the best performing phone out there. Some people want something that is built well and that lets them call and text. For them, Nokia 3.1 is an amazing choice.
