Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA) is prepared to import 107-megawatts more electricity from India, states eKantipur. The current hydroelectricity production of 965-megawatts is not able to meet the current demand of 1,380-megawatt electricity in Nepal.
“Combining the hydroelectricity production from the plants running at peak hours and the electricity imported from India, 1,030 megawatt hydroelectricity is being generated at present”, said Prabal Adhikari, the spokesperson of NEA. The imported 107 megawatt electricity is not meant to be used by industries.
363-megawatt electricity is being imported at present from India and the target is to import 470-megawatt electricity.
To meet the target, NEA has made plans to run the 30-megawatt Chameliya hydroelectricity plant, Kaligandaki, Mid Marsyangdi and Lower Marsyandi and Chilime hydroelectricity plants at their full capacity. Furthermore, NEA has targeted to produce hydroelectricity at full capacity from all the other smaller plants as well.
