Motorola Moto G85 Overview
Design
The Moto G85 features a curved plastic frame that enhances grip and makes the phone more comfortable to hold. It also continues Motorola’s design trend of a seamless camera module, giving it a clean, modern look that aligns with most of the brand’s current lineup.
The phone’s 7.6mm thickness puts it on the slimmer side.
The USB-C and a speaker grill are on the bottom, like any other phone on the market. However, unlike other phones in the price range, Motorola has not officially mentioned any IP rating for the Moto G85.
The Moto G85 comes in four color options: Urban Grey, Olive Green, Cobalt Blue, and Magenta. Interestingly, Motorola has gone with two different back materials.
Olive Green, Cobalt Blue, and Magenta feature a vegan leather finish—something that’s becoming increasingly common across mid-range phones. Meanwhile, the Urban Grey variant sticks to a more traditional PMMA (plastic) back.
Display
On the front, the Moto G85 boasts a stunning 6.67-inch curved pOLED display with FHD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) and a sharp 395ppi pixel density. Since it’s a pOLED panel, the bezels are ultra-slim, giving you an immersive viewing experience.
That, combined with the punch-hole notch, gives the Moto G85 a flagship-like appearance—despite it being in the mid-budget segment. On top of that, the touch sampling rate of 240Hz gives the G85 equally rapid touch responsiveness.
The display is a 10-bit panel with full DCI-P3 colour gamut that features a peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
Hardware
Processor-wise, the Motorola Moto G85 packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 2. It is an octa-core silicon with 6nm transistors with a peak clock speed of 2.3 GHz.
It is a standard midrange processor that does not stand out much, especially since the lower-priced Moto G64 features a Dimensity 7025 that performs similarly to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3.
Paired with the chipset are 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. There is another variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage for users opting for higher storage and more RAM.
In addition to its internal storage, the Moto G85 supports microSD expansion of up to a massive 1 TB. However, it uses a hybrid SIM slot—so you’ll have to choose between extra storage or a second SIM card.
Cameras
The Motorola Moto G85 features a 50MP primary camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), backed by a Sony LYT-600 sensor. This setup allows the phone to capture impressive detail, particularly in low-light conditions, making it a solid performer for its class.
Likewise, the auxiliary shooter on this phone is an 8MP ultrawide snapper that is also capable of macro shots. Meanwhile, for selfies, you are looking at a 32MP unit.
Talking of the video, both front as well as back cameras can record FHD videos at 30fps.
Battery and OS
A 5,000mAh battery powers the Moto G85, which can last for 34 hours— according to Motorola at least. Along with a large battery, there is also support for a 30W TurboPower charging.
The Motorola Moto G85 runs on Android 14 with My UX skin on top. Motorola is offering two years of OS updates and three years of security patches with the Moto G85.
While that’s decent for a mid-range device, it does fall short when compared to Samsung, which now promises up to six years of OS and security updates—even on some of its budget-friendly M-series phones. That definitely gives Samsung an edge in long-term software support.
