Paramount Motors, the authorized distributor of MG vehicles in Nepal, is planning to introduce the MG S5 EV in Nepal.

MG launched the S5 EV in October 2024, catching the international EV market by surprise.

The automaker managed to keep the vehicle under wraps, shrouding it in secrecy until its official debut.

Typically, Chinese auto manufacturers must secure approval from regulatory bodies before launching a product, with the approved models appearing in monthly public records.

Given the surge of new EVs from Chinese brands, these lists often grow extensive. Yet, MG defied expectations by successfully concealing the S5 EV in plain sight, avoiding any leaks or early disclosures prior to its grand unveiling.

S5 EV is the successor of the largely successful MG ZS EV.

MG Motors leverages the advanced R&D expertise of its parent company, SAIC Motors.

For example, MG used the SAIC’s Nebula pure electric architecture for the development of the S5 EV, which boasts the world’s thinnest battery at just 110 mm.

As the successor to the ZS EV, the S5 EV will likely come with two battery pack options: a 49 kWh and a 62 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery.

MG stands out among electric vehicle brands in Nepal with its diverse and exciting lineup. It offers everything from the compact city-friendly Comet EV to the stylish Cyberster convertible.

Between these, MG also includes the ZS EV SUV and the MG4 EV hatchback in its portfolio. With the upcoming addition of the S5 EV, MG’s lineup will become even stronger.

MG Nepal is clearly targeting the BYD Atto 3 with its new MG S5 EV, intensifying the competition in Nepal’s electric SUV market.

In terms of performance, the S5 EV takes it away with its bigger motor of 125 kW compared to the 99 kW Motor on the BYD Atto 3.

While the battery size of the S5 EV remains unconfirmed, its predecessor, the ZS EV, boasted a larger battery than the Atto 3 but still fell slightly short in outperforming its rival.

Despite this, both the ZS EV and Atto 3 have established themselves as strong contenders in Nepal’s electric SUV segment.

With the launch of the S5 EV, MG Nepal is set to enhance its appeal and strengthen its position in the market.
