Kathmandu Metropolitan City, KMC starts management of wires threaded on electric poles as an initiative to clean the town.
According to KMC’s Environment Management Department Chief, Rabinman Shrestha, the tangled wires dangling from the utility poles in different parts of Kathmandu city like Tripureshwor, Kamaladi and Kamal Pokhari have been taken care of. Altogether 15 truckloads of tangled wires and cables have been collected and disposed at Teku by KMC.
The major reason behind KMC starting this campaign is because the unmanaged wires have increased the risk of fire outburst and have also made the city look messy.
Furthermore, KMC has also taken a penalty against two internet service providers namely, WorldLink and Subisu for setting up wire networks unsystematically. They were penalized Rs. 20,000 each for unmanaged wire networks. Additionally, KMC has issued a warning pledging to take action against anyone involved in making the city look messy. And, it has also been washing the streets during the night to rid the city of dust.
