Nepali Health Minister, Girirajmani Pokharel, officially launched the Android-based mobile application, Khulduli, during an event organized by the National Health Education, Information and Communication Center (NHEICC) in Kathmandu.
The event was attended by adolescents, top government officials, and representatives of youth organizations, development partners and other important personalities within the Nepal health sector.
The mobile app, Khulduli is developed with the aim of promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents in Nepal by empowering them with the right information about their health and advising them to adopt a healthy lifestyle best suited to their personalities.
The app was developed as part of the broader “Healthy Nepal, Prosperous Nepal” campaign by the NHEICC in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), German Development Cooperation and USAID.
Even though adolescents represent a third of the total population of the country, less than one third of the total adolescent population have easy access to sexual health information. The app was developed in order to tackle this problem and save the adolescent population from wrong exposure.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pokharel said, “With the help of this app, adolescents in Nepal can have easy access to credible sexual and reproductive health information and can make informed and responsible decisions about their health and well-being.”
The application can be used offline i.e. without any internet connection after download and is now available to download from the Google Play Store and is in the Nepali Language.
