Smartphones are replacing everything, so why not money? Who likes carrying a bunch of paper everywhere they go? The people behind the concept of e-wallet apps must have thought the same. Despite the slow start, these apps have come a long way to replacing paper money concept. They are popular in most other countries. Yet, Nepal somehow is still in the initial phase.
Although there are some applications like eSewa and iPay, I don’t think anyone would disagree if I say we have a very long way to go. However, Khalti, a digital wallet, the newest online payment service, aims to narrow down the gap.
Sparrow Pay Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary company of Janaki Technology Pvt. Ltd., launched the app in CAN Infotech 2017 conducted in January. Janaki Technology has been serving thousands of businesses and millions of people through products such as Sparrow SMS and Picovico.
Khalti is a one-stop payment gateway with a range of services – mobile recharge, bill payments, online ticketing services. The company plans to add other digital payment services for user’s convenience. Currently, it is available on the Web and Android platform.

Anmol Rateria, Incharge of Media and PR department of Khalti, emphasized on the fact that lots of effort have been put on UI of the application to create a seamless user experience. She assures that Khalti provides a hassle free way for payments of bills.
Khalti is built on a robust platform using cutting edge technology. The application provides real-time data sync across all devices. It also provides some exciting cashback services and allows the user to transfer and request funds from friends which make the application stand out from other e-banking applications.
Khalti provides features such as recharge/top-up of prepaid and postpaid mobile phones, airlines ticketing, movie ticketing and ISP and STH bill payments. It is associated with service providers like SimTv, DishHome, WorldLink, Subisu, Nepal Telecom, Ncell, Smart cell, Broadlink, UTL, and Sparrow. The official banking partner of the application is Nepal Investment Bank. The company is also on the verge of adding more banks in the application.
Personally, I like the application. It is easy to use and hassle free. Users can make payments to various services like landlines, ADSL, prepaid recharge etc. In addition, they can also view their transaction history, through which they can keep track of their activities. I am early waiting for this application to be available in iOS platform. Thus, in my view, this application is worth a try.
