JuneYao Air EV Launching in Nepal This February: Is Its Design a Selling Point?

JuneYao Air is set to launch this February in Nepal.

LRR Mobility have taken the official distributor role for distributing the JuneYao Auto vehicles in Nepal, and they are set to introduce the first EV model from the brand and it’s called JuneYao Air.

About JuneYao Auto

JuneYao (JY) Auto, a subsidiary of JuneYao Group, represents the conglomerate’s strategic expansion into the automotive industry. Originally, the conglomerate, JuneYao Group is best known for its aviation subsidiary, JuneYao Airlines which has been a big name in the domestic airline sector of China for over three decades.

The parent group leveraged its expertise to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market in 2023 by acquiring Yudo Auto, a financially struggling Chinese automaker. Following the acquisition, JuneYao Group rebranded the company as JuneYao Auto and positioned it to compete in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sector.

Its inaugural offering, the JY Air electric sedan, debuted with a focus on innovative design and safety, formed by two core principles derived from their aviation expertise: “Aero Aesthetics,” inspired by aviation-inspired streamlined design, and “Aviation-Grade Safety,” a pledge to meet rigorous aerospace-derived safety standards.

The company seems quite serious toward EV innovation which is highlighted by a substantial three-year Research and Development cycle (1,099 days) to bring the JY Air to market even after JY Auto capitalized on Yudo Auto’s existing infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities post-acquisition.

What is the Price of JuneYao Air in Nepal?

JuneYao Air price in Nepal is not known right now. However, JY Air price in Nepal is speculated to start from Rs. 59 Lakhs.

Avoiding the intense competition in China’s EV market, the company has entered Thailand, where it plans to set up an assembly plant by 2025. It has introduced the vehicle in two variants: Standard and Plus.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the vehicle has already arrived in Nepal and is currently undergoing testing. They also assured us that the launch is set for February 2025, with two battery pack options available.

However, the variant names “Standard” and “Plus” may be different in the Nepali market.

JuneYao Air Overview

Design

The JuneYao Air design prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency without compromising a bold aesthetic.

Its superior aerodynamics has been engineered in such a way that it has a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.23 which allows it to join the elite tier of aerodynamically optimized cars.

While its silhouette may divide opinions with many even finding it hideous, every curve and contour serves a purpose for this car.

At the front, the short and sloping bonnet flows into angular LED headlamp clusters that houses 240 individual LEDs each and are accented by sharp C-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs).

The side profile echoes a fastback design evident from its roofline that runs uninterrupted to the rear that further enhances airflow.

Bulged rear taillights and a streamlined tail section continue the aerodynamic theme, balancing form and function.

Riding on an either 17-inch or 19-inch Multi-Spoke Alloy Wheels (depending on the variant), the Air’s sleek stance hints at a low ground clearance.

However, JuneYao’s Nepali distributors confirm plans to tweak the ground clearance to 172 mm for ensuring compatibility with Nepali road conditions. 

The inside is said to mimic the sophistication of an airplane’s first-class cabin.

A minimalist dashboard anchors a 15.6-inch freestanding Infotainment Touchscreen while an 8.8-inch Digital Instrument Cluster peeks through the two-spoke steering wheel.

Though the cabin follows the clean and minimalistic layout custom of Chinese EVs, the slight space sacrifices for its tapered front and rear makes the cabin space airy and spacious. Moreover, JY claims that soft-touch materials cloak 75% of cabin surfaces.

JuneYao offers two trims: Standard and Plus.

The Standard variant features Fabric seats with Six-Way Manual Adjustment, while the Plus trim upgrades to Leatherette Upholstery with 6-way Power Controls, Ventilated Front Seats, and a Panoramic Sunroof.

Interior color options reflect this hierarchy: the Plus model dazzles with Honey Orange, Silk Black, or Luna Grey, while the Standard variant sticks to a single grey tone.

However, the exterior color stretches across 5 color options for both variants i.e. Aurora Green, Moon White, Meteorite Blue, Galactic Black, and White Black.

Performance

The JY Air, designed for Nepal, is powered by a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. It generates a max power of 135 PS and a max torque of 250 Nm.

It offers two battery options, both utilizing a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The Standard variant features a 51 kWh battery, providing an NEDC-rated range of 430 km.

It takes 5.3 hours to charge from 10% to 100% using an 11 kW AC charger and supports 70 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes.

The Plus variant comes with a larger 64 kWh LFP battery, extending the NEDC range to 520 km. Charging from 10% to 100% with an 11 kW AC charger takes 6.5 hours, while its 138 kW DC fast charging capability allows a 30% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes.

Both variants deliver identical performance in terms of top speed and acceleration, reaching 170 km/h at their peak and sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut and Five Link Independent Suspension handle the suspension duties.

The dimensions are 4550 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1515 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2800 mm.

The ground clearance of JY Air is 172 mm. And, the kerb weight is 1750 kg to 1770 kg, depending on the variant.

The boot space is 420-liter which can be expanded to 1338-liter.

JuneYao Air Price in Nepal and Availability

JuneYao Air price in Nepal is not revealed yet. But as per some reports, JY Air price in Nepal will start at Rs. 59 Lakhs.

The vehicle is currently in testing phase to assure its compatibility with Nepali road conditions and terrains. As per JuneYao representatives of Nepal, JY Air will be launched this very February for the Nepali market.

JuneYao Air’s fastback design is a relatively fresh addition to the Nepali market. However, since it falls under the sedan category, it will compete directly with the Deepal L07.

On paper, both vehicles offer similar performance, each powered by a 99 kW PMS motor. However, the L07 holds an advantage in range, thanks to its larger battery pack, which delivers 540 km (NEDC) compared to the JY Air’s 520 km (NEDC) in its top-spec variant.

Despite this, the JY Air’s significantly lighter build could enhance its efficiency, potentially narrowing the gap in real-world range. Both models feature an aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of 0.23 that contributes to an improved energy efficiency and driving dynamics.

While design preference remains subjective, the L07 presents a more conventional and aesthetically balanced look. In contrast, the JY Air’s unconventional styling, with its asymmetrical elements, may not appeal to everyone.
