iPhone 15 Pro Max Overview
Design
The iPhone 15 Pro Max looks pretty much the same as the last generation iPhone 14 Pro Max. It’s now ever so slightly smaller and about 20gm lighter. So how’d they do it? Well, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a titanium frame, and the radius of the curves has gotten slightly smaller. The finish on the frame is like that of brushed titanium compared to stainless steel on the last generation phone.
The major difference, however, has to be the alert slider. Gone is the alert slider, but worry not as the phone now features an Action button in its place, allowing you to program the button to do lots more.
Other than that, it is basically the same phone with Corning-made glass, textured matte glass back, IP68 protection, and overall look. The front is protected by Ceramic Shield and still features the dynamic island which shows cool, fluid animation showing important alerts, notifications, and activities.
Display
The phone comes with a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display. It’s a Super Retina OLED with a resolution of 1290×2796 that refreshes at 120Hz. It’s a super sharp display with a pixel-per-inch count of 460. The display also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision with a peak brightness level of up to 2000nits in Outdoors, Apple claims.
The display features a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating with True Tone and P3 Wide color capabilities. It still features the Always-On display and is pretty much the same quality flagship display we saw in the previous version.
Hardware
Hardware is where it gets interesting. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by the new A17 Pro chip. This is the first “pro” chip Apple has produced and claims it brings the biggest redesign in the history of Apple GPUs along with it. In their own words, the A17 pro chip is a monster win for gaming.
The six-core CPU is now up to 10% faster and raytracing performance has also leaped to a 4X speed over the A16 Bionic. It uses hardware-accelerated ray tracing for the first time to produce faster images than that of software-based ray tracing to deliver more fluid graphics and lighting.
Apple claims it’s the fastest ray tracing performance in a smartphone. The phone also uses MetalFX Upscaling to reduce power consumption while pumping out high-resolution graphics.
Furthermore, the 2x faster Neural Engine can perform nearly 35 trillion operations per second with 16 cores. The performance of this phone will, without a doubt, top the charts.
The phone comes in 3 storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Camera
On paper, the iPhone 15 Pro Max features a triple camera setup. A 48 MP f/1.8 main sensor with a 12MP f/2.8 periscope telephoto that provides 5x optical zoom and a 12MP, f/2.2 120˚ ultrawide. That’s the hardware side of things.
On the software side, Apple presents us with a new photonic engine that combines the pixels from High-quality image and lighting-optimized image to give you the best output possible. You automatically get 24MP photos, twice what was provided before. There’s also the option of choosing the focal length for the main camera: 24mm, 28mm, or 35mm.
Furthermore, now all images with human subjects will capture and store depth data so you can convert a normal image into a portrait one. The Photonic Engine also allows for portraits to now be Live photos and also shift focus after the shot has been taken.
Apple also claims that the Night Mode benefits from this engine allowing users to see subjects more clearly in darker scenes and increased dynamic range.
Well, there are also many other modes on the phone which will make this article way too long. It’s the iPhone’s top-tier camera system and you know their reputation with photography and videography so we’ll skip the gritty details.
The front has a 12MP f1.9 camera and can shoot up to 4K@60fps videos.
Battery and OS
Apple hasn’t specified the capacity of the battery but made claims that the phone can last up to 29 hours of Video playback and 95 hours of Audio playback.
For charging, the phone supports MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W and Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W. Apple also claims that with a 20W adapter (sold separately), you can get a 50% charge in 30 minutes.
The smartphone runs iOS 17 out of the box. For more details about the OS, you can go here.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is Apple’s flagship for the year 2023 and 2024 until the iPhone 16 series releases. It ditches the lightning port for a USB Type C port and replaces the Alert slider with a programmable Action button.
Furthermore, the phone now features a 5X telephoto lens and a Titanium body. If you already own the 14 Pro Max, the 15 Pro Max doesn’t seem that much of a significant upgrade given how much it’ll cost.
