An Indian pharmaceutics, Tizig Pharma Pvt. Ltd, is looking to build a cancer drug plant in Bhaktapur, reports My Republica.
The Details:
- The company will invest Rs. 351 million and provide jobs to 88 people. Venkatesham Ambati, an Indian citizen, will be solely investing the amount in an Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) venture.
- The plant will produce 400,000 boxes of tablets and capsules including 150,000 boxes of anti-cancer drugs every year.
What they are saying:
- Nepal has a huge demand for anti-cancer drugs. According to Khagendra Basnet, director of the Department of Industry (DoI), producing cancer drugs in Nepal is financially feasible.
- Local drug manufactures however say that the company may have targeted to export to India as supply access is easy in Nepal even though it is heavily restricted in other countries. They say that producing drug for the domestic market only may not be feasible.
- Hari Bhakta Sharma, executive director of Deurali-Janta Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd said, “It is not immediately possible for Nepali manufactures to set up cancer drug manufacturing here as such medicines are heavily controlled in the world outside Nepal.”
