The Government of India, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and United Nations Office for Project Services have signed an agreement to reconstruct 50,000 houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot that were devastated by the 2015 Earthquake, reports Online Khabar.
The Details:
- The agreement was signed by by Dr. Ajay Kumar, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, on behalf of the Government of India, and by Renaud Meyer, Country Director, UNDP, Nepal and Sanjay Mathur, Regional Director, United Nations (UN) Office for Project Services Asia Region.
- According to the agreement, India is to provide $16.2 million for the reconstruction in accord with the new construction norms prepared by the government.
- The two UN agencies will help in the construction and certify that the house is according to government standards.
