Buying a perfect budget phone which provides value for money might be slightly trickery for most people. Today in this post, we will be comparing three of the popular budget phones available in the Nepali market right now — the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019, Vivo Y91i and Oppo A3s — and help you make your purchase decision easier. So, without wasting much time, let’s start the comparison.
Build
Y7 Pro 2019 uses a polycarbonate back with glossy finish and it may look like glass at the first glance. The phone feels sturdy, looks expensive than it is. Overall, it’s a well-built phone. Oppo A3S and Vivo Y91i uses plastic back and these phones have equally good build quality but the Y7 Pro 2019 certainly looks better.
Y7 Pro 2019 and Oppo A3s do not have a fingerprint sensor. They make it up for the lack of fingerprint sensor by including a face unlock, which works well under sufficient lighting. Whereas we do get both features on the Vivo Y91i.
Display
First, Let’s start with the display. The VIVO Y91i has a 6.22 inches IPS LCD panel with a screen resolution of 720 * 1520 and a pixel density of 269 ppi.
Huawei always has had good displays on their budget phones and likewise, we get a 6.26 inches IPS LCD panel with a screen resolution of 720 * 1520 and a pixel density of 269 ppi. Similarly, the Oppo A3s has a 6.2-inch display with a screen resolution of 720 * 1520 with a pixel density of 270 ppi. Both VIVO Y91i and Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 use a teardrop notch whereas we have a bigger iPhone X like notch on the Oppo A3s.
So, All of these phones have similar screen size and have the same screen resolution. Vivo Y91i and Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 use the teardrop notch whereas the Oppo A3s has a bigger iPhone X like notch.
All of the displays are on the same level. There’s not much difference between these phones when it comes to the display
Performance
So, how is the performance of both of these phones?
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 and Oppo A3s uses the 14nm Snapdragon 450 clocked at 1.8 GHz which is almost the same as the Snapdragon 625. Snapdragon 450 is a lowered clock version of the Snapdragon 625. Whereas the Vivo Y91i uses 28nm process Snapdragon 439 processor, which is a lower mainstream SoC that is clocked at 1.4GHz
Vivo Y91i definitely will lag behind in terms of performance, as it’s a much low powered processor. Also, the Adreno 506 GPU on Y7 Pro 2019 and Oppo A3s will perform better than the Adreno 505 GPU on the Y91i. The base variant of the Oppo A3s and Vivo Y91i comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, whereas the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 has 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. But just for the sake of keeping things similar we’ll consider the 3GB RAM variant of the Oppo A3s.
Heavy games like Asphalt 9 and PUBG should run better on the Y7 Pro 2019 and the Oppo A3s as they have a better processor and larger RAM.
So, if you rank them based on the performance, the Y7 Pro 2019 and the Oppo A3s would rank similarly. Whereas, the Vivo Y91i will lag behind both of these phones. But EMUI is a much more efficient and fluid than the Color OS. Thus, Y7 Pro 2019 should edge the Oppo A3s in terms of overall performance.
Camera
Y7 Pro 2019 boasts dual rear camera with a main 13MP f/1.8 sensor with PDAF and a 2MP depth sensor. Whereas, the Oppo A3s uses a main 13MP f/2.2 sensor with PDAF and 2MP depth sensor. And, the Vivo Y91i also has a main 13MP f/2.2 sensor with PDAF and 2MP depth sensor.
Given the sensor megapixel count, we should get equally sharp images on all of these phones. However, we can only say that after a head-to-head comparison. Among these phones, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 should work better under low-light as it has the widest aperture.
Software
Now, let’s see how the device fare in terms of software used. All of these phones still use Android 8.1 Oreo. All of these are budget phones and use a skin on top of the Android OS. The VIVO Y91i uses the FunTouch OS, the Oppo A3s uses the Color OS and Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 uses the EMUI.
Now between these three phones, the Funtouch OS on the Vivo y91i has to be the most unsatisfactory. It is not as streamlined as the other UI’s. Meanwhile Huawei’s EMUI is a better performer than Color OS on Oppo A3s and Funtouch OS on the Vivo y91i.
In addition, EMUI is much more efficient than the other two UI. This helps in battery consumption and efficient performance. But, the choice of UI will also come down to your personal preference.
Battery
Now at last, lets talk about the battery. The Vivo Y91i has 4030 mAh battery. Then the Y7 Pro 2019 follows up with 4000 mAh battery and the Oppo A3s with 4230 mAh battery.
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 has a 10W fast charging but the Oppo As has 20W fast charging. However, there is no fast charging mentioned on the Vivo Y91i. Even though the Oppo A3s has fast charging support, it takes almost 3 hours for it to charge from 0 to 100. Whereas, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 takes 2 hours and 10 mins for a full charge. And, Vivo y91i has the worst with almost 4 hours of charge time. So on overall, the Huawei y7 Pro 2019 is the overall winner in terms of battery and charging.
Overall
So, on overall the Huawei y7 Pro 2019 looks to be a better phone. Y7 Pro 2019 is cheaper than the Oppo A3s and Vivo y91i, and on overall, it’s a better phone.
The Vivo Y91i lacks performance, whereas the Y7 Pro 2019 just marginally edges the Oppo A3s with the fluency of EMUI. Also, one of the major deciders has to be the charge time. Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is the quickest of them all. And, it’s surprising that even with a 20W fast charging support the Oppo A3s takes almost 3 hours to go from 0 to 100 with the stock charger. Whereas, the Vivo Y91i is very sluggish with 4 hours of charging time.
