What happens when style meets performance in a smartphone?… A giant hole in your pocket. That’s what happens. You want something that looks good and performs equally better; you shell out pretty hefty cash. Think about the iPhone X, the Huawei P20 Pro, or the Galaxy S9 (or the Note 8). The design is the aspect most manufacturer choose to skimp on when looking to cut corners to make an affordable smartphone. But not so with the Huawei Nova series. The most astounding part of the upcoming Nova phones is definitely the design. They look very similar to the most premium Huawei phone, the P20 Pro. They have the edge-to-edge screen design with an elongated 19.5: 9 aspect ratio screen that is crisp and vibrant to look at. Seriously, the major wow factor on the Nova 3e was the screen. The new phones also come in the twilight edition introduced by the Huawei P20 Pro where the glass-back of seems to be of a different shade of blue depending on the angle you look at it. They call it the gradient effect. You have to look at it to appreciate it.
But definitely, if so much attention has been given to design, the performance must be average at best right? NO. The Huawei Nova 3, one of the two phones scheduled to be released, has the same processor inside as the Huawei P20 pro (Kirin 970, Huawei’s most powerful chip), which means you are getting the best performance that Huawei has to offer on a Nova phone. It even has 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
And the Nova 3i, the other phone to be launched, is no slouch either. It has a powerful Kirin 710 processor inside coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. These two phones will cruise through every task you throw at them. Docs, Gmail, Facebook, YouTube, Insta, Snapchat, everything. And with the GPU Turbo Update that they are going to be shipped with, gaming performance won’t be a problem at all if the numbers from Huawei of 60% graphics performance boost are to be believed.
So, maybe the cameras are mediocre. You wish. Both these phones come with a quad camera setup. Dual cameras on the back and dual cameras on the front. Huawei Nova 3 has a dual 16MP + 24MP sensors on the back. The 16MP is a color sensor while the 24MP is a monochrome sensor mainly useful for detail and sharpness. The Nova 3i has a dual 16MP + 2MP sensor on the back. Both these setups use some form of AI like the Bokeh effect or the Scene recognition feature to enhance your camera experience. Both device feature a dual 24MP + 2MP sensors on the front.
The new Nova phones, Nova 3 and Nova 3i, really look infallible on paper. With stellar design and amazing performance, the Nova series is defining what the mid-range category can offer. This series of phones show that you don’t have to rob a bank to buy a phone that you like to carry and that you like to use at the same time. We can’t wait to get our hands on these devices to test them out.
