In a new initiative by the government, there will now be traffic lights at 200 intersections of the roads of Kathmandu Valley. This initiative was directed by Home Minister, Janardan Sharma to all concerned agencies in a bid to improve the traffic in the valley.
In a formal program at the Ministry, Sharma directed the officials of Nepal Police, Kathmandu Valley Transport Management Department, Road Department, and Nepal Electricity Authority to present the expenditure details of the task. He also directed the chiefs of concerned agencies to submit a plan on traffic management in the Valley. Sharma has also ensured to manage money for this project.
Minister Sharma has instructed the Transport Management Department, Director-General, Gopal Sigdel paint zebra crossing in 800 areas of the Kathmandu Valley within 15 days. Sharma talked about the need to replace small vehicles with big buses saying “Let’s issue a notice to the petrol pumps linked with road and put reform efforts based on new standards”.

- Removal of unmanaged parking and stopping contract based parking management. -Nepal Police, IGP Prakash Aryal

- Proper parking management. – Kathmandu Valley Development Authority Commissioner, Bhaikaji Tiwari
- Construction of 18 sky bridges in the valley. – Traffic Police Division Chief, DIG Mingmar Lama
- Setting up bus stations rather than its stops and developing a system disallowing passenger vehicles to stop more than a single minute on the road. – Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor, Bidya Sundar Shakya
