HIGHLIGHTS
- Gogoro has partnered up with Nebula Energy to first-of-its-kind Battery Swapping Technology in Nepal.
- The company will unveil Gogoro Pulse and Gogoro Jego in the upcoming NADA Auto Show 2024.
- It will begin operations with 45 Battery Swapping Stations in Kathmandu!
Gogoro Nepal will begin operating 45 Battery Swapping Stations in Kathmandu around Dashain.
Nebula Energy, the authorized distributor of Gogoro scooters in Nepal, will be the first EV technology company to introduce battery-swapping technology in the market.
Presently, Nebula Energy has installed and operated two GoStations strategically in Lazimpat and Tripureshwor.
The company is already in the process of establishing more GoStations in key areas in the Kathmandu Valley. These swapping stations will be functional and operational around Dashain.
Upon completion, Gogoro Nepal will have 45 functional Battery Swapping GoStations in Kathmandu Valley alone. The distance between these Gogoro Stations will have a higher coverage area than a traditional petrol pump!
After establishing a strong GoStation network, the company will start to offer its Gogoro electric scooter to the masses.
It will launch the Gogoro Pulse and Gogoro Jego in the upcoming NADA Auto Show 2024.
The company has begun B2B operations for delivery giants like Foodmandu and JumJum with its commercial Gogoro GX250 scooters.
Interestingly enough, Gogoro will be the first EV company in Nepal to offer Battery as a Service (BAAS), where the customers will not have to bear the risks and costs expected from a depreciating battery.
However, this will be offered in a subscription model after its official launch.
If a customer is low on battery, they can easily visit the nearest GoStation, and swap the battery within a few seconds! With this, customers will no longer have to wait for hours to charge their already expensive scooters.
What is Battery Swapping Technology?
Gogoro Inc. is a global technology leader in the battery-swapping ecosystem.
The battery swapping technology allows users to simply swap the battery instead of spending hours charging the scooter.
Dubbed “Swap and Go”, users can visit the nearest GoStations, and swap the depleted battery for a fully charged battery. This entire process happens in just a few seconds!
Gogoro Nepal hopes to offer an anxiety-less range, time savings, and a lifetime battery guarantee!
Gogoro’s ecosystem offers an open and interoperable battery-swapping platform, as recognized by Guidehouse Insights as the leading battery-swapping technology.
Gogoro has secured the top spot as the Most Innovative Company in Asia Pacific and the 37th spot globally in Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies 2024.
Advantages of Battery Swapping Technology
Battery-swapping technology hopes to tackle the issues of both ICE and electric scooters.
Internal combustion engine two-wheelers come with many uncertain problems. It is notorious for producing toxic air and sound pollution, limited fuel supply, and expensive price hikes.
While electric scooters are better alternatives, EV transportation comes with its own set of issues. Range anxiety, high charge time, and expensive battery replacement costs still prevent looking at an electric scooter as a good alternative solution.
Comparing the import data of EVs for the past two years, Nepal has imported more than 1,20,000 EVs, of which just 5000 are electric scooters. It is less than 5% of the overall EV imports!
Since Nepal is a two-wheeler-dominated market, the lack of electric two-wheelers showcases the lack of confidence in that segment.
Considering these factors, Gogoro Nepal presents a practical alternative to address the shortcomings and issues of both ICE and electric two-wheelers.
Gogoro electric scooters will serve as a practical alternative to ICE scooters. Whereas, the battery-swapping technology will provide the benefits of instant battery swaps, similar to visiting a petrol pump for a fuel top-up.
This is a fresh take on the world of electric mobility!
Gogoro Nepal plans to reduce the total cost of ownership, address battery ownership and replacement costs, mitigate range anxiety, and drastically remove charge time!
Real World Example
Gogoro Network is active in Taiwan, supporting more than 600000 riders with more than 1.4 million smart batteries in circulations.
The company has established 12500 battery swapping stations at over 2500 locations.
Thanks to the convenience offered with the battery swapping technology, Gogoro has a 90% market share in electric two-wheelers in Taiwan, outnumbering GoStations for petrol stations.
It has more than 400,000 daily battery swaps, and more than 570 million total battery swaps to date, saving more than 870,750 tons of CO2 since its launch in 2015.
