DJI Avata Overview
Design
The propellers of the DJI Avata are protected by built-in propeller guards. So, it can handle minor collisions. And there is the Turtle mode, which can flip the drone if it is upside down after a crash.
The drone is 410 grams, which is significantly lighter than the 795g DJI FPV. The drone has an Infrared Sensing System and two downward-facing sensors for the Downward Vision System. However, it does not have any forward sensors, which the DJI FPV had.
If you buy the bundle, it comes with DJI’s newest flight control headset DJI Goggles 2, and the DJI Motion Controller to control the flight. The DJI Motion Controller guides the drone according to the movement of your hand.
The Avata is also compatible with the existing DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 and DJI FPV Goggles V2.

DJI Goggles 2
The DJI Goggles 2 is a video headset that comes with the bundle. It features a micro-OLED screen with adjustable diopters. The adjustable diopters eliminate the need to wear glasses if you normally wear them.
The side of the headset has a touch panel that lets you control its settings with only one hand. The DJI Avata can transmit 1080p/100fps with H.265 decoding using DJI O3+ transmission debuted in DJI Mavic 3.
The Goggles 2 has a transmission delay as low as approximately 30 milliseconds and up to 10km transmission distance. It also can auto-switch dual frequencies and a high bitrate of 50Mbps.
DJI Motion Controller
The DJI Motion Controller is a flight control device, which may look like a video game controller. It is a motion-controlled device that allows you to control the drone using the motions of one hand.
The controller has an emergency brake button that stops the drone and hovers it in place.
Camera
The 48MP 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor has an f/2.8 aperture and an ultra-wide-angle lens with a viewing angle of up to 155-degree. The drone can take aerial photography and videography at up to 4K/60fps, and slow-motion footage at 2.7K/100fps.
The Avata can also shoot with DJI’s D-Cinelike color profile that captures broader details, making it easier to edit in post-production. It also includes DJI RockSteady and DJI HorizonSteady EIS for video stabilization.
Features
The DJI Avata has three flight modes: Normal (N) Mode, Sport (S) Mode, and Manual (M) Mode. N mode is for beginners, while Sport Mode gives a bit more control while still offering some of the key safety features of N mode.
The M mode requires you to have DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 instead of the DJI Motion Controller. This mode gives full control to the user.
When the transmission is lost or when the battery is critically low, the Failsafe Return to Home feature automatically returns the drone to its starting location.
The drone employs DJI’s GEO 2.0 geofencing system to automatically stop drones from flying near certain high-risk places, such as airports, and to notify pilots of airspace restrictions and potential hazards
Additionally, the DJI’s AirSense ADS-B receiver system alerts drone operators when airplanes or helicopters are nearby, and broadcasts DJI’s AeroScope signal to help authorities monitor airborne drones in sensitive locations.
Furthermore, in addition to supporting up to 256GB microSD card, the drone also has 20GB of storage onboard. To control the DJI Avata, users can download the DJI Fly app.
Battery
The DJI Avata has a 2420mAh battery. DJI claims that the drone can last up to 18 minutes hovering in an environment without wind or interference on a single charge. It can travel 11.6kmm before running out of battery.
