- CG Mobile is now the authorized partner of Motorola in Nepal.
- The company plans to launch entry-level to flagship phones before Dashain.
- The collaboration will be operational from India.
CG Mobile, a subsidiary of the Kathmandu-based multinational conglomerate Chaudhary Group (CG), has announced that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with Motorola, an American smartphone manufacturing brand.
“CG Mobile had been pursuing this collaboration for a long time, and finally, from August 2024, the news is official. We are now the sole authorized partner of Motorola in Nepal,” said Vinay Joshi, a CG Mobile representative, to TechLekh.
The new collaboration between CG Mobile and Motorola will operate from India. CG Mobile plans to launch Motorola products in Nepal, ranging from entry-level to flagship models, before the major Hindu festival Dashain. However, specific models have not yet been confirmed.
Currently, CG Mobile shared that it is in the process of checking the compatibility of Motorola phones with Nepal’s telecommunications network.
This is not the first time the American consumer electronics brand has entered the Nepali market. Motorola debuted in Nepal in 2017 by partnering with LifeCom, the then-authorized distributor of Lenovo smartphones for Nepal. Unfortunately, it failed to gain a significant market share in Nepal.
Around 2020, Motorola returned to Nepal with a new distributor, Call Mobility. Call Mobility is also the distributor of Lenovo in Nepal. However, for a few years, Call Mobility has not launched any new Motorola phones and has remained inactive.
When asked about this matter, CG Mobile informed TechLekh that Motorola has terminated Call Mobility as its official distributor in Nepal. When TechLekh contacted Call Mobility, a representative stated that no updates on this matter have been received yet.
In a separate note, not so long ago, CG Mobile also introduced Nothing phones in Nepal and reports suggest that the company is now planning to bring several more smartphone brands to the country.
