HH Bajaj, the authorized distributor of Bajaj vehicles in Nepal, is gearing up to introduce an exciting addition to its lineup—the Bajaj Chetak (35 Series), an electric scooter.

The “Chetak” name holds a legendary status in the scooter segment, dating back to its introduction in the 1970s. Inspired by Maharana Pratap’s iconic horse, Chetak quickly became a household name.

During the 1980s, Chetak dominated the Indian scooter market, with demand soaring so high that waiting periods stretched up to 10 years. However, by the 2000s, competition from Japanese brands like Yamaha and Suzuki intensified.

Their advanced scooters and motorcycles, equipped with electric starters, gradually overshadowed Chetak, ultimately leading to its production halt.

Bajaj revived the Chetak name in 2020 under its “Urbanite” EV brand, reintroducing it as an electric scooter. The revival proved successful, making Chetak a popular choice in India’s growing EV market.

Over the years, Bajaj continued refining Chetak, introducing multiple variants. The latest iteration, the Chetak 35 Series, launched in December 2024.

Built on a new platform distinct from its predecessors, the 35 Series quickly gained traction. By early 2025 (January and February), it had already secured its place as India’s second best-selling electric scooter, trailing only the TVS iQube.

Now, let’s have a quick look at the key specs of the Bajaj Chetak 3501 in Nepal for 2025.

Performance

Bajaj Nepal is likely to introduce two variants of the Chetak 35 series in Nepal: the 3501 and the 3503. However, with limited details available about the 3503, we will focus on the 3501 for now.

The top-spec 3501 is powered by a 4 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that generates a max power of 5.4 PS. Moreover, it is supported by a 3.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the scooter, providing an IDC-claimed range of 153 km.

Additionally, the 3501 comes with a 900W standard onboard charger in India, enabling a 0 to 80% charge in just 3 hours.

However, a full charge takes approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, the 3503 serves as the entry-level variant of the 35 series, with its official launch in India scheduled for April 2025. While its exact performance figures remain unconfirmed, it will also feature a 3.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Unlike previous Chetak models, the new 35 series is built on a fresh platform with a redesigned electric motor and controller unit. Bajaj has positioned the battery pack lower, increasing footboard space for improved practicality.

The 3501 achieves a top speed of 73 km/h, making it well-suited for urban commuting.

Bajaj Chetak Price in Nepal and Availability

Talking about the pricing, the Bajaj Chetak 3501 price is expected to start at Rs. 3 Lakhs. The brand is aiming for aggressive pricing, so the expected pricing is reasonable.

Following the 3501, Bajaj will introduce the Chetak 3503 as an entry-level model in the 35 series.

Moreover, a flagship Chetak showroom is under construction in Naxal, Kathmandu, where the brand will showcase its electric scooters after their official launch.

The launch of the Bajaj Chetak 3501 sets the stage for a fierce rivalry with the TVS iQube, as both brands dominate Nepal’s two-wheeler market.

In recent years, manufacturers have increasingly shifted their focus toward electric scooters, leading to the arrival of TVS iQube in the segment. Now, with the debut of the Chetak 3501, the competition will intensify.

The Chetak 3501 and iQube S are closely matched in terms of performance. However, the iQube holds a slight edge with its 4.6 kW motor, compared to the 3501’s 4 kW unit. This advantage reflects in the top speed as well—78 km/h for the iQube, while the Chetak 3501 maxes out at 73 km/h.

The Chetak 3501, however, counters with superior practicality. It offers 35 liters of underseat storage, three liters more than the iQube’s 32-liter compartment. Though the difference seems small, the extra space adds convenience for riders.

Charging efficiency also favors the Chetak 3501. With its 950W charger, it reaches 80% charge in just three hours, whereas the iQube takes 4.5 hours with its 650W charger.

On paper, the Chetak 3501 should deliver a better range due to its well-balanced motor and battery capacity. However, its additional 12 kg weight might impact real-world efficiency. Meanwhile, the iQube stands out with a richer set of features, adding to its appeal.

Ultimately, pricing will play a decisive role in consumer preference. Based on informal discussions with the brand, the Chetak 3501 is expected to launch at a highly competitive price, which could significantly boost its market potential.

With both scooters vying for dominance, this showdown promises to be an exciting one!
