With Google planning to start its own Music subscription service, Apple is stepping up its game. According to latest reports, Apple is in talks to acquire Shazam; a music identification app. Shazam is a popular app with the ability to identify music, movies, and TV shows. And it is expected to add more functionality to Apple Music with further integration with iOS’s Siri.
Though the deal has not yet been confirmed by both Apple and Shazam, various sources report the deal is worth $400 million and will be signed next week. This is the biggest deal since Apple acquired Beats in 2014 for whopping $3 billion. It had recently purchased Podcast search engine, PopUp Archive as well. So we can guess that Apple might be acquiring the startup to improve its audio streaming services.
With these plans to purchase audio searching services, Apple is definitely planning something big. The company will likely go head-on with its competitions like Spotify, Google Music, and Amazon.
