Three Best Alternatives to Messenger Kids

Facebook recently launched a toned-down version of its Messenger app, just for kids. Facebook has named this new app, Messenger Kids. Messenger Kids has been introduced as a new messaging tool for kids below 13.

Like the regular app, it works the same but with parental controls. The app allows parents to create a profile for their kids, approve friends and relatives. It provides kid-appropriate interactive experience with camera filters, fun stickers, GIFs and drawing tool.

Messenger Kids’ release for Nepali community is yet to be decided. It may take months before your kids can use this app. Until its release, here are the three best alternatives to Messenger Kids.

#3. Play Messenger

Play Messenger is the first chat app designed specifically for kids. It has the ability to send text, photos and voice message. With minimalistic user-interface, it does not overpower you with features. The app does include advanced parental controls. Parents have complete ability to monitor kids’ activity like friends list, chat history, and new requests.

Another unique feature is the “Trust Mode”. Parents can choose whether to trust their kids or not. If they turn on Trust Mode, messages & requests are directly sent to the kids. However, when Trust Mode is off, parental approval is required before sending to the kid. Unlike Messenger Kids, friends can be added scanning unique QR Code.

Play Messenger would’ve been our top choice. However, with annoying server issues and lack of customer support, we will only include it on our list but do not recommend.

Roo Kids is a messaging app for kids with critical parental controls. It has the ability to send text, picture or doodle. The user interface is bright and colorful, designed especially for kids. Parents can sign up with via email then create kids’ account. Roo Kids is simple with no jarring features. It does include fun chatbots which are fun.

Parents can gain full parental controls by verifying their email. Parental controls include add or remove friends, blocked words, and curfew. They can add their custom words to the blocked list or set curfew hours. Though, you can view your kid’s chat history like Play Messenger.

Roo Kids is completely ad-free but it is buggy at times. Though it is limited at times, we still recommend it as an alternative to Messenger Kids.

Monster Messenger is an instant messaging app for kids and their families. It has the ability to send text, photos, stickers, voice text, and doodles. The user interface is bright, clean, and colorful, designed especially for kids. It has easy controls. Parents can sign up with via email and not Facebook account. Kids can add friends through invitation, which has to be approved by the parent. However, if the invitation has a common friend, it does not require parental approval.

Parents have full access to the contact lists & ability to block contacts. The app uses trained moderators to ensure anti-bullying, privacy, and safe content. As an added benefit, Monster Messenger is ad-free!

Compared to other messaging apps, Monster Messenger is bug-free with the active online community. We do recommend this to be a true alternative to Messenger Kids.
