TechLekh Verdict
The Wave Beat is a budget smartwatch from bOAT. It doesn’t have any standout features and is pretty standard across the board for the price segment. It’s not particularly bad or good.
The Wave Beat brings basic features at a pretty basic price of Rs. 3,499. You get the standard heart rate monitor, exercise tracking, sleep tracking and other features with the smartwatch. It doesn’t bring anything special to talk about.

bOAT Wave Beat Review
Design
- IP68
- Detachable straps
The Wave Beat brings an IP68 rating and a plastic body. The IP68 rating means that the watch is dust-tight and protected against the effects of continuous immersion in water. Moreover, the smartwatch features detachable straps and is pretty light at around 45gm only.
The watch is comfortable to wear and also has a button/wheel on the side. Pressing the button switches between the home screen and menu, while rotating the wheel doesn’t do anything.
Something we noticed with the straps is that it has a lot of adjustable holes so it fits a variety of hand sizes. Furthermore, there are two loops on the strap to keep the watch secured.
There’s a quick release for the strap to be detached but personally, it was quite difficult to get the straps back on. Now, this is not a very big issue or a deal breaker, as other manufacturers also use the same quick-release style strap.
Display
- 1.69″ LCD
- 550nits
The display of the Wave Beat is pretty good. It gets bright outdoors and the clarity overall is pretty decent as well. bOAT had advertised a peak brightness of 550nits for the display.
The technology used is LCD and not AMOLED but at low brightness levels, the blacks were quite deep. The bezels are rather thick all around the display and the smartwatch doesn’t have that modern/premium look when you view the display.
Overall, the display of the watch is pretty good. As for the refresh rate, it’s not specified but is on par with other budget smartwatches.
The touch response is pretty average with the watch missing a few touches here and there. There’s no specified refresh rate rating for the watch but yeah, it was similar to what you get on other budget watches. The animations can feel a bit jittery if you’re used to higher refresh rate devices.
Performance
bOAT has not specified the chipset or the memory in this smartwatch. The performance is pretty average.
The UI is okay, it’s not smooth and you do get a bit of choppiness when scrolling through the various modes and features. However, we didn’t find any freeze-ups during our testing which is good.
The watch also didn’t crash or lag when using any measurement modes like SpO2 or heart rate. Overall, for the price, the performance is decent enough. No complaints here. You get exactly what you paid for.

Health Tracking and Features
- Heart Rate
- SpO2
- Sleep tracking
The smartwatch features basic health tracking. As the norm, you get your heart rate monitor, SpO2 monitor, and sleep tracker. It also has a steps counter and you can choose between multiple exercise modes to record your physical activity.
It doesn’t bring any extra features to the table. All of the data is synced to the bOAT app and you can view old records and analyses on the app itself.
The measurements seemed to be quite good. Of course, it’s not capable of doing medical grade measurements, but for a budget smartwatch and some casual condition checks, the watch functions well enough to get by.
SLEEP TRACKING
This smartwatch also features a sleep-tracking feature as well. It was pretty accurate with the timings when compared to other smartwatches. bOAT had mentioned that there are certain criteria that need to be met for the watch to consider the time for sleep so it is understandable how some readings can come out different than what we expected but overall, the smartwatch performed pretty good in our sleep tracking tests.
The data is synced to the app and shows your sleep duration and how long you were in deep sleep or light sleep, and REM. It also scores your sleep and provides comparison and analysis of different days which can be helpful in setting a better sleep schedule.
The app also has insights and tips to get a better sleep score.
Battery
- 220mAh battery
bOAT has claimed a battery life of 15 days for the smartwatch. During our testing of over 10 days, the smartwatch had around 44% left so bOAT may be pretty bang on with their battery life estimates. The charging cable is included in the box as well.
Obviously, the battery life can widely vary due to the settings for health measurements and screen brightness so your mileage might vary.
