Apple iPad 2022 Overview
Design
The design of the Apple iPad Pro 2022 is the same as previous-gen models. It also comes in two sizes: 11-inch and 12.9-inch. Both have the same flat metal back and frame with the Apple logo in the middle and a square camera module in the top left corner.
The only minor visual change that separates this from the rest of the iPad Pro is the addition of the word “Pro” to the word “iPad” at the bottom. Apart from that, it’s the same.
There is a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support and a stereo speaker setup.
Display
The 11-inch iPad Pro model has Apple’s Liquid Retina display, while the larger 12.9-inch one has a Liquid Retina XDR display. Both displays are LCD panels, but the display of the 12.9-inch model is a mini-LED type, which is superior in quality.
Both are nothing new for the iPad Pro. What’s new is the Apple Pencil Hover feature. When using the Apple Pencil (2nd generation), this feature allows users to see a preview of the mark of the stylus before making it.
The iPad Pro can detect where the Apple Pencil is up to 12mm above the display. The hover feature is something we have seen before on Samsung devices that support the S Pen.
Hardware
The only major upgrade the iPad Pro 2022 brings is Apple’s latest M2 chip, the same chipset that powers the new MacBook Air 2022.
The M2 chip is Apple’s start of the next generation of M-series chips. It features an 8-core CPU — four performance cores and four efficiency cores — and a 10-core GPU. Apple claims that compared to M1, the CPU is up to 15 percent faster and the GPU is up to 35 percent faster in graphics performance.
In terms of memory, it comes in five variants. The 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants come with 8GB RAM, while the higher 1TB and 2TB storage variants include 16GB RAM.
Furthermore, we also get to see the latest Wi-Fi 6E support on both models of iPad Pro 2022. Wi-Fi 6E uses the 6GHz wireless band to enable faster and more reliable wireless connections on supported devices.
Camera
The cameras are exactly the same as last year. There is a 12MP main camera and a 10MP ultrawide camera at the back.
And for selfies and video calling, it has a 12MP ultrawide camera with Center Stage support. The Center Stage feature, which was introduced on the iPad Pro 2021, automatically crops and pans to keep the user in the frame.
Battery and OS
The iPad Pro 11-inch has a 28.65Wh battery, whereas the larger iPad Pro 12.9-inch comes with a 40.88Wh battery. The iPad Pro uses a USB-C port for charging.
Both models can deliver up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching video, according to Apple. Using a cellular data network on the Wi-Fi + Cellular models gives up to 9 hours of surfing the web.
In terms of software, the iPad comes pre-installed with iPadOS 16.
