Purple Alpha Review

Design

Design

Purple Alpha has a square-shaped body that measures 42.8×35.6×9.7mm. There’s a button on the right that illuminates at night.

Its body is made up of zinc-aluminum alloy and comes with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. The main body looks pretty good and is made up of good material. However, it does feel heavier than other watches like Mi Watch 2 Lite. In terms of durability, it has not endured any sort of chip damage, so it feels durable as well.

The silicone strap of the Alpha is not comfortable to wear all day due to the metal buckle. The metal buckle is uncomfortable if you tighten it properly. They should have gone for some sort of plastic buckle instead.

Display

Display

For display, the Alpha has a 1.69-inch IPS panel with a screen resolution of 240×280. Well, the bezel could have been thinner but it’s fine.

The display panel is bright and has decent viewing angles but the color reproduction is not appealing. I did not have any problem using the watch outdoors but the display has dull colors.

In terms of watch faces, you get 5 watch faces as default and you can choose from 119 other watch faces via its companion app.

Performance& Battery

Purple has not mentioned the chipset or amount of RAM and storage used on the Purple Alpha. The Alpha feels smooth to use but it is not flawless. However, there are no major lags or stutters while swiping between menus.

As for storage, it doesn’t allow media transfer between the mobile phone and the watch. However, it does store health data in the watch itself.

Alpha has a 200mAh battery which is claimed to provide 20 days of battery life under basic usage. But, if you use all the features with Bluetooth turned on, it will last for 5-7 days.

Health Tracking Features

Heart Rate Tracking

Purple Alpha comes with Heart rate monitoring, Pedometer, Sleep monitoring, SpO2, and Blood Pressure monitoring.

The heart rate measurement and the step counter work pretty well. You can also turn on the 24-hour heart rate monitoring option if you want to. Likewise, the Alpha also has REM sleep tracking that shows your sleep pattern in detail.

The SpO2 monitoring is also decent but you should not use this as the standard device for accurate blood oxygen monitoring. Next, the blood pressure monitoring is pretty bad. It was showing low blood pressure reading all the time even after a quick sprint.

SpO2 tracking

Furthermore, it also has a temperature measurement feature that works well. It takes time to show accurate body temperature but it definitely works.

For workout-tracking, it has 8 sports modes that include: Walking, Running, Cycling, Skipping, Badminton, Basketball, Football, and Swimming.

Software and Others

Purple Alpha uses proprietary OS and you need to install an app called Da Fit to use the Alpha.

Da Fit is an average companion app with decent UI. All the health stats and activities are spread out on the main page. It is easy to navigate and change the settings as well. You can download watch faces via the app and toggle settings like notification, alarms, and some others.

Some other features of the watch include Bluetooth calling. The Alpha has a speaker and a mic, so you can pick up the call using the watch itself. Furthermore, you can also make a phone call via the watch and save 8 contacts on the watch itself. Furthermore, it has features like Sedentary reminders, Remote music, Remote camera, and Weather.

Should You Buy Purple Alpha?

Purple Alpha is a good smartwatch that offers good build quality and lots of features. It is one of the few smartwatches that provides SpO2 monitoring, Bluetooth calling, and Blood pressure monitoring at this price tag.

The Bluetooth call feature at this price segment is great but the blood pressure feature is a gimmick. Furthermore, it has limited workout modes. Except that, it has a decent display and performs well.

So, if you want a smartwatch with a Bluetooth call feature at an affordable price tag then Purple Alpha is good for you. But, if you want more workout tracking options and better display, you can look elsewhere.
