Xiaomi Launches Redmi 6, 6A and 6 Pro in India; Coming Later to Nepal

Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone brands in India. The Indian market may also be their most profitable market. That’s why they keep releasing their new phones in India first. After making headlines with their insanely priced Pocophone from their sub-brand Poco, Xiaomi is back with three new phones in India.

This time, the phones are even more budget friendly. The Redmi 6A retails for INR. 5,999, the Redmi 6 retails for INR. 7,999, and the Redmi 6 Pro retails for INR. 10,999.

Redmi 6A

Redmi 6A is the least expensive phones among the new Redmi phones. It runs MIUI 9.6 (Xiaomi’s custom skin) atop Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and sports a 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC on the inside, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB/ 32GB inbuilt storage. You will have to pay INR. 6999 for the 32GB version though.

In the camera department, the Redmi 6A has a single 13-megapixel rear camera sensor. There is a 5-megapixel camera sensor on the front for selfies and video calling. The phone has a 3000mAh battery. Other features of the phone include 4G VoLTE support.

Redmi 6

Redmi 6 sits firmly between the Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 Pro in terms of price. Just like the Redmi 6A, it runs MIUI 9.6 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. The screen is a 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, coupled with 3GBGB of RAM. It comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants. The 32GB model will cost INR. 7,999 and the 64GB model will cost INR. 9,499.

The Redmi 6 has a horizontally stacked pair of dual rear cameras with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. On paper, these cameras look competent. On the front, the phone gets a 5-megapixel selfie camera with AI beautification capabilities. Talking about battery it has a 3000 mAh battery. This phone, like the Redmi 6A supports 4G VoLTE.

Redmi 6 Pro

The most expensive phone of the bunch, Redmi 6 pro starts at INR. 10,900. It runs the same OS as the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A. It uses a 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch. Don’t worry, you have the option to hide it if you’d like to. The Redmi 6 pro uses a Snapdragon 625 instead of a MediaTek processor. This is the same chip used in the Mi A1 that Xiaomi released two years ago. There is a 3GB/ 32GB variant that costs INR. 10,900 and a 4GB/64GB variant that costs INR. 12,999.

The cameras on the Redmi 6 pro are the same ones found on the Redmi 6. You have a dual 12MP+5MP setup on the back and a 5MP sensor on the front. The battery has the capacity of 4000mAh.


The Redmi 6A, 6, and 6 Pro are good values, typical of Xiaomi. And regarding the launch of new Redmi series, it is believed to be launched after the launch of Pocophone and Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite in Nepal.
