Dell Inspiron 7577 vs Acer Predator Helios 300

The Gaming laptop market has gotten competitive. Especially after the release of the GTX 10 Series Desktop Grade graphics chips for laptops. In this competitive market, the two laptops that have been able to hold up pretty well are the Dell Inspiron 7577 and Acer Predator Helios 300. Both of these devices fall under the same price point. With almost identical specifications, it is quite difficult to choose the “winner”. This article is intended to provide you with a better insight into these devices and help you choose between them.

Build

Both, the Acer Predator Helios 300 and the Dell Inspiron 7577 have a sturdy build. Both have a lot of air vent/exhaust that helps the insane hardware inside these machines keep cool. The hinge on both the devices are nice and opening with one hand is not going to be a problem. Talking about the keyboard, both have a keyboard that is rock solid. However, the typing experience in the Dell Inspiron 7577 is not very comfortable. So, the Helios 300 takes a lead on this one. Both of the laptops have a decent trackpad with Windows Precision Drivers, so the tracking experience is good.

Specification Comparison

These two laptops have basically the same hardware. However, there are some differences and the Graphics Process being one. The Acer Predator Helios takes the lead in the head to head battle with a full-on GTX 1060 as the Inspiron 7577 has a slightly underclocked GPU (the MAX-Q) version. Though this might not be a huge disadvantage to the Inspiron 7577, because it yields only 10-15% less performance than the GTX 1060, it might be a deal breaker for some people.

The area where the Inspiron 7577 leaves the Helios 300 behind is the ports selection. Though the ports are also basically the same, Dell Inspiron 7577 shines in the “Thunderbolt-3” department. Dell Inspiron 7577 has a Thunderbolt-3 port which uses 4 PCIe Lanes, which expands the horizon of the things Inspiron 7577 can do. Be it connecting an external display or connecting an external GPU, Inspiron 7577 takes it all.

Gaming Performance and Battery

When it comes to gaming, there is no doubt that both of these machines crush it. You can play any imaginable Triple A titles in High Settings and get a decent amount of frame rates. The powerful GTX 1060 is able to hold up pretty well. However on the Dell Inspiron side, you don’t always get the maximum boost clock, so frame rates might not be quite as good. Talking about the battery, Dell 7577 can last for 7 hours on normal usage with WLAN turned on whereas the Acer Predator Helios 300 can last between 4-5 hours.

Our Verdict

The Dell Inspiron 7577 and the Acer Predator Helios 300 go head to head with each other. Both offer the best performance at this price point. These laptops are, as the millennials say, “bang-for-the-buck”. With almost the same specifications except few, these laptops have basically nailed the budget laptop category.

You can’t go wrong with any of these, so purchasing one shouldn’t be as hard. But we prefer Acer Predator Helios 300 over the Dell 7577 when it solely comes to gaming. Dell 7577 has an underclocked version of the GTX 1060 (Max-Q) so the games will not run as well as it runs on the normal GTX 1060. However, Dell 7577 looks more premium and provides much more mobility as it has a comparatively bigger battery capacity.
