Nepal Telecom(NT) has alerted its customers to not receive phone calls from unknown numbers or numbers with no caller ids. NT sent a message yesterday to all its subscribers asking them not to entertain phone calls from numbers such as 0123456 and 123456, among others. It has also asked its subscribers to file a complaint at their toll-free number 188 if they receive such fake calls.
NT has been receiving many complaints of such phone calls from people for the past two months.
The spokesperson for NT, Prativa Baidhya said, “We have been receiving complaints that unidentified groups have been attempting to cheat people in the name of various schemes using such numbers. Following the same, Nepal Telecommunications Authority(NTA) had urged NT to make its customers aware of such fraudulent schemes.”
In response to these complaints, NT has been investigating the exact route via which unidentified groups have been making such phone calls to different people.
Earlier this month, NT issued a public notice warning people against fake lottery calls. This was done after people reported getting fake calls in Viber and from international numbers that include +923344877561, +923491295325, +923417053291, +601114310982 and other similar numbers. NT had asked its users to be wary of such fake calls. They had also asked people not to share their bank account details in any such calls.
