The Alternative Energy Promotion Center(AEPC) has provided support for maintenance of the countries 48 hydro projects. Out of the total 262 projects damaged by the earthquake in April and may in 2015, these 48 projects have been provided with Rs 60 million in last two years by AEPC.
The government institution which promotes and renews alternative energy technologies has provided grant for complete maintenance for the highly affected districts like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Okhaldhunga and Makawanpur.
“We are not directly involved in the maintenance process of the said projects. AEPC provides subsidy and the local community or consumer community of the project will handle the entire works,” Nawa Raj Dhakal, spokesperson for AEPC, said.
The 48 projects have been categorized into partially damaged and fully damaged. AEPC is sending grant through district coordination committee to projects that beared partial damage while the completely damaged are directly receiving the support amount for the maintenance .
The institution is also providing support with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme and Department for International Development (DfID). APEC will continue to support financially to these damaged project until the maintenance process is completed.
