The e.Mas 7 is Proton’s debut electric vehicle, marking the company’s bold entry into the EV market.
With this launch, Proton will throw down the gauntlet to compete directly with industry giant BYD.
One of BYD’s core strengths lies in its battery technology, and Proton has addressed this head-on with the e.Mas 7.
The vehicle is equipped with the AEGIS Short Blade Battery, developed by Geely Auto Group.
For a deeper dive into this battery technology, refer to the “AEGIS Short Blade Battery Explanation” part of this article.
In short, this battery utilizes the same Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry as BYD’s but offers several advancements that set it apart from the current gen Blade battery.
Proton’s e.Mas 7, shares more than just its battery with the Geely. In fact, it is nearly identical to Geely’s Galaxy E5 that debuted earlier in 2024.
However, Proton has clarified that this resemblance stems from both vehicles being part of a shared development project and the e.Mas 7 represents Proton’s localized iteration of this collaboration with the brand’s specific design philosophy and market preferences.
While the Galaxy E5 is being marketed in international regions such as China, Australia, Norway, Thailand, and Indonesia, Proton is strategically positioning the e.Mas 7 for markets outside of these territories.
The e.Mas 7 recently made its debut in Malaysia, where it achieved remarkable success, registering over 2,500 bookings shortly after launch.
Further boosting its credentials, the e.Mas 7 has earned an impressive 5-Star rating in the ASEAN NCAP safety tests. Proton now plans to extend its reach, with upcoming launches in markets including Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Mauritius, and Nepal.

Proton e.Mas 7 Overview
Design
The Proton e.Mas 7, classified as a C-segment SUV, features a simple and minimalistic design, but its overall appearance leans toward being barebones.
At the front, the design offers little to capture attention apart from the sleek LED headlights and DRLs.
The Proton badge sits prominently at the center of the grille, while the rest of the fascia remains clean and understated.
From the side, the vehicle showcases a well-proportioned design, resting on a substantial 2750 mm wheelbase.
The wheel options vary by variant, with the Light model equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Max model boasts larger 19-inch alloys, adding a touch of sophistication.
At the rear, a full-width LED taillight bar lights up brilliantly during braking, with the Proton logo placed just below it.
The “e.Mas 7” badging includes a distinctive blue “e,” hinting at its electric nature and adding a subtle accent to the otherwise straightforward rear design.
While the exterior feels somewhat monotonous, the interior presents a more engaging experience.
Proton has embraced the minimalist approach popular in Chinese EVs, creating a clean and uncluttered cabin that avoids feeling sparse.
Surprisingly, the e.Mas 7 offers an exceptionally spacious interior, enhancing comfort for passengers. The SUV is available in two trims: Light and Max, each with varying levels of features and creature comforts.

Both variants share a 15.4-inch Infotainment Touchscreen and a 10.2-inch Digital Instrument Cluster.
The Max variant elevates the experience with additional luxury features, including a 16-Speaker Audio System compared to the Max’s 6-speaker setup.
Max variant also offers a Heads-up Display, a Panoramic Glass Roof, and an Electric Tailgate.
While both trims come with Leatherette Seating, the Max model adds seat memory functionality and ventilation for the front seats.
Inside, the Indigo Blue color scheme is the sole option, while the exterior offers a broader palette, including White, Green, Silver, Pink, and Grey.
Performance
It is powered by a 160 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which generates a max power of 218 PS and a max torque of 320 Nm.
For the battery, the e.Mas 7 offers two configurations tailored to the variants. The Light model features a 49.52 kWh Short Blade Battery Pack, providing a WLTP-certified range of 345 km. Charging this battery from 0 to 100% takes approximately 7 hours using a 7.2 kW AC charger.
The Max variant is equipped with a larger 60.22 kWh Short Blade Battery Pack, extending the WLTP range to 410 km. Despite its increased capacity, it only requires about 8.5 hours for a full charge using the same 7.2 kW AC charger.
Both variants support DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes.
The Proton e.Mas 7 can reach a top speed of 175 km/h. When it comes to acceleration, the Light variant outpaces the Max slightly, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.
The Max variant, equipped with a larger battery pack that adds extra weight, completes the same sprint in 7.1 seconds.
AEGIS Short Blade Battery Explained
Geely Auto has developed and patented the AEGIS Short Blade Battery, the latest advancement in its Blade Battery series, built on the proven Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry of the first-generation models.
As the name suggests, the AEGIS Short Blade Battery is significantly shorter in length, measuring 40% less than the long Blade Batteries currently in use.
This compact design results in a shorter cell module and reduces overall internal resistance—a limitation of the long Blade Batteries.
To enhance performance further, the battery incorporates carbon nanotubes, which facilitate smoother lithium-ion movement between electrodes, enabling faster charging times.
Geely highlights another major improvement: superior performance in cold environments. Thanks to its stronger discharge capacity, the AEGIS Short Blade Battery overcomes one of the biggest drawbacks of current-generation Blade Batteries.
The battery’s standout feature is its impressive energy density, reaching 192 Wh/kg, surpassing the energy density of BYD’s first gen Blade Batteries.
Additionally, Geely has branded the AEGIS Short Blade Battery as a “1-Million-Kilometer Battery,” thanks to its exceptional cycle life of approximately 3,500 cycles.
Additional Details
McPherson Strut and Multi-Link Independent suspension handles the suspension duties.
The dimensions are 4615 mm in length, 1901 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2750 mm. The kerb weight is 1662 kg and 1765 kg depending on the battery size.
The ground clearance for e.Mas 7 is 173 mm. Additionally, it comes with a 461-liter boot space, which can be extended up to 1877 liters.

The Proton e.Mas 7 is set to compete directly with the BYD Atto 3 in the EV market.
In terms of performance, the e.Mas 7 takes a clear lead with its powerful 160 kW motor, significantly outpacing the Atto 3’s 100 kW motor.
Both SUVs feature nearly identical battery pack sizes and boast similar WLTP driving range claims, making them competitive in the range department.
However, a key distinction lies in the battery technology.
The BYD Atto 3 is equipped with a Blade battery, widely celebrated in the EV market for its reliability, safety, and longevity. In contrast, Proton, in collaboration with Geely, has introduced the “AEGIS Short Blade Battery” in the e.Mas 7.
While similar in concept to the Blade battery, the AEGIS Short Blade is shorter in length, offers a higher energy density, and claims an impressive million-kilometer lifespan, giving it a technological edge.
Despite its promising performance and advanced battery technology, the e.Mas 7 faces a branding challenge.
The Atto 3, already one of the best-selling electric SUVs in Nepal, enjoys strong market recognition, while the e.Mas 7 marks Proton’s debut in the EV segment.
To compete in Nepal’s highly competitive EV market, Proton Nepal is looking to position the e.Mas 7 in a price range similar to the Atto 3, though it might be slightly more expensive.
However, the e.Mas 7 justifies the extra cost with its unique battery technology and a decent range of features, making it a standout choice in a market saturated with Atto 3s.
